Saros Devs Dodge PC Port Question, Adding Further Fuel to Sony Skipping PC Ports

Is This Actually The End of Cycle For PlayStation PC Ports?

Story Highlight
  • The Saros director was asked about a probable PC port, but he dodged the question.
  • He said that right now they want to launch the game, and PS5 is the launch platform.
  • Recent reports indicated Sony’s huge shift from its multiplatform strategy.

For the last few months, reports have been circulating that 6 years after it first did it, Sony is now looking to completely quit PC ports for its flagship single-player titles. Now, a recent interview indicates that the reports could indeed be true.

The upcoming PS5 exclusive title, Saros‘ director was asked if the game will get a PC port. He smartly dodged the question, saying that for now, they are concentrating on launching the shooter for Sony’s console.

Why it matters: The PC ports were huge hits when they first came out and generated a substantial amount of revenue. However, with the Steam Machine approaching, Sony wants to retain the value of its consoles.

Saros From Housemarque
Saros devs dodged a question about a PC port

In a recent interview with Game Informer, Gregory Louden was asked if the game is coming to PC, and he replied that today, we are only focused on PS5. Now, there were reports that initially a port was planned.

Today we’re only talking about Saros and the launch on the PlayStation 5.

The report indicated that both Ghost of Yotei and Saros were supposed to be ported to Steam, but Sony planned a strategy shift. So, now only live service games will launch on PC, with no single-player ports planned.

PlayStation is expected to stop releasing single-player PC ports

The Steam Machine will obviously have access to the full Steam library. Additionally, Xbox Helix is expected to feature multiple storefronts as well, so if Sony released its games on PC, the consoles would’ve been in jeopardy

This makes it a smart decision to keep its console’s value. Microsoft went all in, and the Xbox sales completely faltered; Sony likely doesn’t want the same to happen to PlayStation any time soon
