RTX 4070 Super Flops Amid Poor Day One Sales

Possibly Due To 12GB VRAM!

The Green team has released the GeForce RTX 4070 Super after announcing the latest lineup last week at CES 2024. This graphics card offers a 10-15% performance uplift over its predecessor, coming with 48MB L2 Cache in addition to a bump in overall CUDA Cores.

Offering all of this for the same price as the GeForce RTX 4070, the Super variant was poised to be a hit on the market. However, the initial results are quite unexpected for this release.

Source: Moore’s Law is Dead

As reported by Moore’s Law is Dead, retail sources paint a grim picture for the GeForce RTX 4070 Super launch. At this rate, this model could be in the race for Nvidia’s worst-selling graphics card to date.

One source states that initial sales were even worse than the GeForce RTX 4080. Others claim only MSRP models are selling somewhat well. Another retailer claimed pre-orders for this graphics card are a wasteland, with nobody coming into the store to ask about the launch.

These sources include retailers across both the US and Europe, showcasing that Nvidia’s latest release is shaping up to be a failure worldwide. While there can be various reasons for this outcome, one major cause may be the lack of adequate VRAM.

The GeForce RTX 4070 Super only features 12GB of VRAM. Though this can be just enough to get by at 1440p, consumers expect a degree of future-proofing in a card priced at $600.

Even scalpers seem to have joined the conversation, with Moore’s Law is Dead stating that one group was comfortably able to buy plenty of graphics cards at Best Buy. However, the situation is so bad that this group is planning to cancel pre-orders.

In certain parts of Europe, the GeForce RTX 4070 Super is already available below its MSRP. The situation will only get worse from here as the newer Super variants start to show up by the end of the month.
