“If Watching A Steam Is Enough, The Game Isn’t Good Enough”, Says Resident Evil Creator

The Devs Have Missed Out If Players Are Fine With Just The Stream!

Story Highlight
  • Resident Evil creator says that games should be engaging and interactive for the players.
  • If you watch a playthrough and decide it’s enough, then the game isn’t good enough.
  • The Japanese developers usually consider game streaming a sensitive topic.

Capcom is the studio behind some of the best games out there. Its roster is legendary, ranging from Resident Evil to Monster Hunter, and newer IPs like Pragmata. These are outstanding, universally praised titles that sell millions of copies.

In Japanese culture, game streaming isn’t considered a sensitive topic for developers, as it ruins the experience for players. And Resident Evil creator says that if watching a playthrough is enough for players, the game isn’t good enough

Why it matters: This is somewhat right, considering games are supposed to be engaging and inviting, and if something satisfies the audience by just looking at it rather than interacting, it doesn’t achieve the goal.

Resident Evil creator says if players are satisfied with a stream, the game isn’t worth it

Nikkan reports that YouTuber Eiko Kano appeared on a TV show and recalled his encounter with Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami. They discussed whether game streaming ruins sales or is just a way of free marketing and promotion

If viewers watch a playthrough of a game all the way to the end and are satisfied with just that, then it was only that good of a game.

Streaming Video Games
Game streaming isn’t considered a great thing by the Japanese studios

Mikami explained that if a game is great, people will play it. However, if the audience thinks that streaming a playthrough is fine, then the game isn’t good enough. He said that means the developers failed to make an impact.

Kano said he asked the same question to the Dragon Quest creator as well, and his answer was also quite similar. Mikami did say he doesn’t mind streams, because if the game is engaging enough, players will play it regardless
