Sony Surprisingly Removes PSN Requirement From Lost Soul Aside on Steam

Expert Verified By

3rd-party Titles Like Until Dawn Remake And Midnight Murder Club Still Require It.

Story Highlight
  • Sony has removed the PSN requirement from its third-party title, Lost Soul Aside on Steam.
  • Other third-party games like Until Dawn and Midnight Murder Club still have the requirement.
  • Future first-party releases like Spider-Man 2, and TLOU 2 will also require a PSN account.

The PSN account requirement was first added to Helldivers 2, locking the game from almost 100 countries. Since then, the requirement has been there for every PlayStation title on Steam, whether first-party or third-party

However, with its upcoming third-party release, Lost Soul Aside, PlayStation has surprisingly removed the PSN account requirement, which has sent fans into speculation about whether it’ll be removed from more titles or not.

Why it matters: PSN account requirement leads to the delisting of PlayStation releases from major parts of the world. Also, it just adds another launcher that you have to deal with other than Steam.

As per the SteamDB listing, The PSN account requirement was removed from Lost Soul Aside 25 days ago. Despite this, other PlayStation third-party games like Until Dawn Remake and Midnight Murder Club still require it.

Also, it has been confirmed that the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and The Last of Us Part 2 PC ports will require PSN as well. So, they won’t be available in regions that don’t support the service.

PlayStation PC Ports
PlayStation first-party PC ports require a PSN account to access the games.

The account requirement makes sense for multiplayer games, but not for single-player titles. Furthermore, it also restricts access to a huge number of gamers that want to experience the title.

It isn’t clear what the intention was behind removing the requirement from Lost Soul Aside. Nonetheless, it is still uncertain if Sony will remove the PSN account requirement from all its games in the future.
