New PlayStation CEO Hideaki Nishino Wins Over Japanese Players With A Big $120 PS5 Price Drop

Story Highlight
  • Japanese PlayStation fans are overjoyed by the launch of a region-locked PS5 that introduces a price cut.
  • This version, specific to Japan, only costs around $350, a $120 decrease from the normal console.
  • Hideaki Nishino, the new CEO of PlayStation, is responsible for this change as he wasn’t ok with PlayStation losing ground to Nintendo in Japan.

As this current generation of consoles has progressed over the years, prices have only increased, with economic conditions forcing giants like Xbox, Nintendo, and Sony to raise the cost of consoles 8 times in the last 6 months.

Sony’s base of operations, Japan, has felt the brunt of this situation, with the PS5 getting a price hike three times in the country since 2020. However, the gaming giant is trying to mend its relationship with the Japanese player base, and as it turns out, Sony’s new technique is working.

Why It Matters: In the era of gaming companies overcharging players for the bare minimum, it’s surprising to see a company sell a console at a loss to regain the trust of its player base.

PS5 Japan
The $120 price cut has proved to be a home run for Sony.

Many Japanese fans posted on X about how the PS5 has finally arrived at their home, thanks to Sony recently releasing a cheaper region-locked version of the console in Japan, with the cost dropping to just $350.

Players were over the moon to buy the PS5 at its new price, with many using the GoGoPS5 hashtag that Sony is utilizing to market this region-locked console in Japan. This edition introduces a $120 price cut compared to the market version, which retails for around $470 in Japan.

Hideaki Nishino, the new CEO of PlayStation, is the man behind this generous business move. Nishino introduced this region-locked form of the console to win back Japanese players, and judging from reactions online, he is succeeding at this even if Sony is selling the PS5 at a loss in the country.

PS5 Slim
The PS5 was losing ground in Japan before the release of this price-cut edition.

According to the CEO, the previous management at PlayStation was ok with the PS5 trailing behind Nintendo in Japan. But Nishino felt uncomfortable losing market share in the console’s homeland and came up with this cost-effective edition.

FromSoftware Allegedly Revealing More Duskbloods News Soon, Been In Development Since Before 2019

Story Highlight
  • FromSoftware will allegedly reveal more about Duskbloods in the near future, as per a Chinese journalist.
  • The studio had been prototyping with the project before 2019.
  • The new rumors suggest it might be FromSoftware’s most experimental game so far.

Many people snagged a Switch 2 for one of its most anticipated and unexpected exclusives, FromSoftware’s The Duskbloods, but not much has been revealed about it since the initial announcement. However, that could completely change in just the next few weeks.

Reliable Chinese journalist Giwin expects FromSoftware to focus on The Duskbloods soon. He claims that FromSoftware will first reveal a trailer for the 2 new characters in the Elden Ring: Neightreign DLC, followed by a final launch trailer for it.

After that, FromSoftware is expected to begin the marketing campaign for The Duskbloods.

Why it matters: FromSoftware may begin focusing on Duskbloods in the near future after marketing for the Elden Ring: Neighreign DLC wraps up. We may see a new trailer during the upcoming Game of the Year Awards.

As highlighted by YouTuber Ziostorm, The Duskbloods was greenlit even before Sekiro’s marketing began, so before 2019. Therefore, the studio has been prototyping and experimenting with its gameplay the longest out of all its other titles so far.

The next thing for NightReign DLC should be the trailers for the 2 new characters, followed by the final launch trailer. After that, I hope it’s finally time for DuskBloods to start dropping news.

-Chinese Journalist, Giwin.

Besides being PvEvP, the game reportedly features many innovative elements that FromSoftware is proud of, and we may learn about them in the near future. Insider Giwin expects the game to become a model for developers just like Sekiro did years ago.

The journalist is renowned for accurately leaking details about Elden Ring bosses like Radahn and Rykard. But we suggest taking his words with a grain of salt until official confirmation.

Duskbloods
Duskbloods is FromSoftware’s next major and highly anticipated endeavor.

FromSoftware owns The Duskbloods IP, so we may see it eventually launch on PC and other platforms, unlike Bloodborne. The studio will also continue developing single-player games after Duskbloods to stay true to its established legacy.

The entry is expected to launch sometime in 2026, but we may learn more about the specifics in the upcoming Game Awards event.

Do you think The Duskbloods will prove to be one of the best FromSoftware titles to date, despite being a multiplayer experience? Are you looking forward to it? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

CD Projekt Red Using Baldur’s Gate 3 As Inspiration But Plans To Stick With Open Worlds

Story Highlight
  • CD Projekt Red co-CEO Michal Nowakowski claims it is using Baldur’s Gate 3 as inspiration for its games.
  • However, the studio won’t develop a title like Larian and will retain its signature style.
  • CDPR will develop more mainline Witcher open-world titles instead of exploring different genres via spin-offs.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has inspired studios worldwide since its launch. It redefined the RPG genre with depth and complexity that is nearly impossible to surpass, so it’s no wonder that all the RPG aficionados in the industry have started treating it as a benchmark.

Now, CD Projekt Red has also praised the RPG, with co-CEO Michal Nowakowski now claiming the studio is deeply inspired by it. However, the boss clarifies that CDPR won’t ever develop an entry like Larian and will stick to the open-world formula that works for it.

Why it matters: It’s clear that CD Projekt Red plans to stick with large-scale open-world games even if they are not as much of a novelty as they used to be a decade ago. We won’t see CDPR adopt vastly different genres in the future.

The Witcher 3
Many Witcher titles are in development under CDPR’s classic open-world formula.

In an interview with PC Gamer, co-CEO Michal Nowakowski confirms that CD Projekt Red is not going to change its defining open-world formula even if the new poster child of RPGs, Baldur’s Gate 3, has taken the genre in another direction.

There was a lot of inspiration in what Baldur’s Gate 3 did, but I think we’re still sticking to what was in Witcher 3, Cyberpunk.

-CD Projekt Red co-CEO Michal Nowakowski.

Nowakowski adds that CD Projekt Red doesn’t see a need to develop a title similar to Baldur’s Gate 3, even with better visuals. Instead, the publisher wants to continue innovating in the RPG genre with its signature open-world formula.

We already know that CDPR is hiring talent to develop multiple games under various IPs, including Cyberpunk 2 and The Witcher 4. All of these projects are focusing on CDPR’s strong suits to ensure fans get exactly what they’re expecting and more.

CD Projekt RED
CD Projekt RED is working on multiple franchises.

Elsewhere in the interview, the co-CEO says that CDPR will develop more mainline Witcher games in the future instead of experimenting with different genres through spin-offs.

Do you think CD Projekt Red sticking with its formula and not spicing things up is the right decision? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Steam Machine’s Price Will Be In-Line With Current PC Market, Reveals Valve

Story Highlight
  • The Steam Machine’s price will be in line with the current PC market.
  • Valve developers have stated that the console won’t be sold at a loss.
  • The company is trying to refine the price so the consumer gets a good deal, as per the devs.

Ever since its reveal, the Steam Machine has been the hottest topic of debate in the gaming world. Takes regarding the upcoming device have ranged from people calling it an Xbox and PlayStation killer to something that is only hype and will fall flat.

One highly contested point of interest in the community is the price of the Steam Machine. Many think the project can be successful if it costs similar to consoles, but according to Valve, that isn’t going to be the case.

Why It Matters: With the Steam Machine not expected to outperform the PS5 and Xbox Series X, a price tag this heavy may put it out of business.

While speaking on the Friends Per Second podcast, Valve developers Lawrence Yang and Pierre-Loup Griffais revealed that the cost of the Steam Machine will be more in line with the current PC market.

It’s (price) is more in line with the current PC market. Obviously, our goal is for it to be a good deal for that level of performance.

When asked about what price tag Valve is planning for the living room PC, the devs stated that it’s hard to evaluate currently, as there are a lot of external moving parts. However, the company is not going to subsidise the device and sell it at a loss.

The designers further explained that Valve is working on refining the cost of the Steam Machine so the player gets a good deal for the performance. But, it’s probably not going to be as cheap as consoles and could target the $700-$800 median cost of a baseline PC.

Valve has already hinted at this pricing before, and with its insistence that the Steam Machine will be better than 70% of the PCs at home, the console standard feels even farther from reality.

Steam Machine Feat Image
The Steam Machine will have features hard to find in regular PC’s.

Many think that the Steam Machine will usher in a new era of Linux-based devices. But, with this amount in mind, the living room PC could just end up as hype.

Do you think a price tag above $800 is fair? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.

Microsoft Had to Convince Rockstar That Xbox Wouldn’t Flop to Get GTA On The Platform

Story Highlight
  • GTA 4 was the first game in the series that launched simultaneously on PS3 and Xbox 360.
  • Microsoft had to convince Rockstar that the Xbox wouldn’t flop to get the release.
  • Before that, it didn’t get day 1 releases, as earlier versions came a year later on Xbox.

Getting Grand Theft Auto games at launch isn’t something Xbox has had since its advent. In fact, GTA 4 was the first game in the series to be released simultaneously on both the PS3 and Xbox 360, whereas the older releases launched much later.

In a recent interview, a former Xbox executive stated that getting GTA on Xbox on day 1 took a lot of persuading. They had to convince Rockstar that the Xbox wouldn’t be a flop to secure its eventual release.

Why it matters: Before the Xbox 360, Microsoft wasn’t considered as big a player in consoles as Sony or Nintendo, so Rockstar’s reluctance does make sense, but in the end, the company came to an agreement.

niko bellic
GTA 4 was the first game that launched day 1 on Xbox

Speaking to EuroGamer, Peter Moore explained how bringing GTA to Xbox was a big moment for the company. It was basically a PlayStation franchise at that point, but it had to be on Xbox based on how popular it was.

They needed convincing that their development resources, which needed to be shifted to Xbox SDKs, weren’t going to be wasted if the console was going to be a flop

– Peter Moore

GTA 6
Since then, all releases have launched exclusively on Xbox and PlayStation at first

Moore stated that Rockstar had to be convinced that the Xbox platform was worthwhile. If they thought that the console would flop, instead of investing in the platform, they could turn their attention somewhere else.

In the end, it all worked out, and Peter Moore even got a tattoo to celebrate the moment. But, from then on, GTA has been a regular part of Xbox, and even the next entry, GTA 6, launches exclusively on PS5 and Xbox Series at first.

Ubisoft CEO Says Gen AI Is As Big A Gaming Revolution As The Shift To 3D

Story Highlight
  • In the latest earnings call, the Ubisoft CEO says the company is making great strides in applying Gen AI.
  • He says the technology is as big a revolution as the shift to 3D for the gaming industry.
  • The company has all teams in studios embracing Gen AI and exploring use cases across all processes.

Despite many influential figures slamming Gen AI use in gaming, it’s become apparent that most AAA companies are leaning heavily on the tech. Ubisoft is no different, with its many initiatives exploring all the ways it can rely on Gen AI for players and developers.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot now claims that Gen AI is as big a revolution for gaming as the shift to 3D. Therefore, the publisher is already ‘making great strides’ in applying Gen AI to ‘high-value use cases’ to bring tangible benefits for developers and gamers alike.

Why it matters: The new remarks by the Ubisoft CEO suggest the company will heavily utilize Gen AI during game development across all use cases and for enhancing player experience moving forward.

Ubisoft Live-Service Shooter
Ubisoft is working on a variety of new games.

Speaking in the latest earnings call for the H1 FY26 report, the CEO adds that Ubisoft is making great progress on the groundbreaking generative AI applications that directly affect players.

This initiative includes the newly revealed Project Teammates, which turns NPCs into real teammates that reportedly respond and act naturally. This feature may be used in Ubisoft’s newly leaked live-service shooter, Project Scout.

We are making great strides in applying Gen AI to high-value use cases that bring tangible benefits to our players and teams. […] It’s as big as a revolution for our industry as the shift to 3D. And we have everything to lead on this front.

-Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot.

On the production side, Ubisoft already has teams across its studios embracing Gen AI and exploring its use cases. So, programmers, artists, game testers, and other departments are employing this technology.

Ubisoft
Ubisoft aims to release ten games in the next two years.

Gamers are largely unhappy with Ubisoft’s heavy focus on Gen AI, fearing it may lead to layoffs among developers and artists in the future.

Do you think Ubisoft going all-in on Gen AI for development processes and player experience is a good idea in the long term, or is the tech just a novelty? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Team Cherry Is Potentially Planning More Hollow Knight Games

Story Highlight
  • In an interview, Team Cherry lead Ari Gibson has discussed how they would approach more Hollow Knight games.
  • The developer claimed that Team Cherry would create the next game that exists well alongside the others.
  • Meaning, players would not feel lost if they were to play the first two after enjoying a hypothetical Hollow Knight 3.

Hollow Knight: Silksong finally launched with a bang this year after years of waiting. The sequel was an immediate success, despite generating some controversy, and went on to win the Indie GOTY at the Golden Joystick Awards this year.

So it’s no surprise that fans are already looking towards what’s to come in the future of the franchise. Team Cherry seems familiar with the demand for more Hollow Knight games, as the team discussed how it would approach more titles in the future.

Why it matters: Team Cherry discussing how they would approach new Hollow Knight games suggests the team is at least considering creating new parts in the future, especially after Silksong turned out to be such a success.

Hollow Knight Silksong Steam
Hollow Knight: Silksong performed quite well in terms of Steam ratings and sales.

In an interview with AMCI (the Australian Centre for the Moving Image), Team Cherry lead Ari Gibson clarified that a potential Hollow Knight 3, and any other games that were to come in the future, would exist well with the others.

In other words, Ari means that players would not feel lost if they were to return to the original and Silksong after enjoying a hypothetical Hollow Knight 3. It’s the same story with the original, which feels fresh for players who played Silksong first.

And if there were ever others, we would hope that they all follow that same pattern – that the series is all games that just exist alongside one another.

-Ari Gibson, Team Cherry Lead.

This interview took place even before Silksong came out but only recently surfaced, suggesting that Team Cherry has considered the possibility of more Hollow Knight games for a long time.

Hollow Knight Silksong Difficulty
Some gamers did criticize Hollow Knight: Silksong for its difficulty.

Therefore, Silksong’s immense success might finally push the team to develop Hollow Knight 3 in the future.

Do you think Team Cherry will actually work on more Hollow Knight games in the future, or are the mentions by developers not enough to draw a conclusion yet? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Intergalactic Will Not Appear at TGA 2025, Reportedly Skipping 2026 Release As Well

Story Highlight
  • Naughty Dog’s next big IP, Intergalactic, won’t be appearing at The Game Awards 2025.
  • It will also not be released in 2026, contrary to a few rumors that picked up earlier.
  • GTA 6, Wolverine, and Saros are all launching next year, so it could be avoiding competition.

Naughty Dog revealed its brand-new IP, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, almost a year ago, sparking skepticism and curiosity among the fans. While some are really interested in the company’s new venture, others already call it a DEI mess

Fans were anticipating a first detailed look at Intergalactic at The Game Awards; however, reliable sources have confirmed that it won’t be appearing at the event and won’t even launch in 2026.

Why it matters: This is the first time in years that Naughty Dog is working on a new IP, and especially a space adventure, which is a first for them, so the project is quite intriguing.

Intergalactic TGA 2025
Grubb has confirmed that Intergalactic won’t be appearing at TGA 2025

There was a rumor floating around that Intergalactic would be released in 2026. Jason Schreier took to Reddit to confirm that the rumor is false, which was later corroborated by another known insider, Shpeshal Nick.

Moreover, Jeff Grubb also negated another rumor, stating that it won’t be shown at TGA 2025 either. People were hoping it would show up, considering Naughty Dog confirmed that the game is already content-complete.

Intergalactic Protagonist
Intergalactic won’t be releasing in 2026 despite earlier rumors

Nonetheless, the wait for Intergalactic is till 2027 at least. This could be PlayStation’s way of tackling the competition since it has Saros and Wolverine planned for 2026. Moreover, GTA 6 also takes the prime release window.

For now, don’t expect anything about the game in the upcoming months. However, this could be an important IP in the future as the studio already reveals its plans to expand it to sequels and TV adaptations.

Why Noise Dampening Gear Is Taking Over Desks

Story Highlights
  • Noise-dampening gear helps improve coordination with team members by reducing setup noise.
  • Streamers popularised silent setups, making them mainstream for gamers.
  • A quieter setup boosts immersion by eliminating echoes and vibrations.
  • Noise-dampening gear helps enhance comfort during long gaming sessions.

‎Gaming has evolved beyond just high-refresh rates and RGB. Recently, there has been a rise in the trend of noise-dampening gear. Accessories such as desk mats, silent mechanical switches, acoustic panels, and other vibration-absorbing accessories have allowed gamers to enjoy undisturbed gaming.

It isn’t just about dampening noise; it’s about creating a comfortable and distraction-free atmosphere for the best degree of immersion and focus. Let’s dive right into why noise-dampening gear is becoming a staple on the desks of gamers, streamers, and professionals alike.

Why Is This Gear Important

‎Gamers invest heavily in immersive gear such as 4k monitors, surround sound headsets and powerful GPUs, but one thing that breaks immersion fast is noise. Whether it be a hollow desk amplifying keystrokes or the constant thud of your mouse hitting the table, it can ruin your concentration and immersion.

Acoustic Tiles

‎Desk mats smooth out these vibrations and minimise mouse clatter. Acoustic tiles absorb that echo that sometimes gets picked up in voice chat or while capturing game footage. All this gear helps players enter a state of hyper-concentration, allowing them to become fully immersed.

Gamers Now Need Quieter Gear

This need for silence is especially visible in competitive gaming scenes. For competitive gamers, a slight disturbance can mean losing the match, poor communication with the team, and destroying the immersive gaming experience we all yearn for.

Shaky desks, mechanical keyboards, and surfaces that are echo-prone tend to create constant mic interference. This means that your team hears every click and clack louder than your in-game instructions and call-outs.

Desk Pads

‎This is where noise-dampening gear, such as foam-modded keyboards, desk mats, and less clicky switches, helps gamers reduce mechanical noise while gaming, allowing their instructions to reach their team clearly in crucial moments. A quieter setup tends to become a competitive edge in ranked games and such.

Additionally, constant feedback from loud switches and desk vibrations can cause stress and noise fatigue. A quieter setup helps maintain mental clarity during long gaming sessions. These noise-dampening accessories allow gamers to play aggressively, type fast, and flick their mouse without worrying about disturbing others.

Streamers and Content Creators Need it Too

Streamers and content creators also have a great need for noise-dampening gear. Their audience expects their audio to be clear, free from any clicks and clacks that drown out their commentary. It is simple: if you have background noise, your stream becomes annoying for most, meaning you lose your audience.

Keyboard Sound Dampening

Out of this need for no noise disturbance, a trend started. Creators began to stack layers of noise control gear: mats to absorb vibrations, acoustic tiles behind the monitor to reduce echo, damping foam inside keyboards, and silent switches that allow streams to keep the tactile feel without any disruptive noise.

As these setups gained popularity on Twitch and YouTube, the gaming community followed. Now, even non-streamers have a yearn for that streamer-grade setup.

Adoption in Esports

The Esports industry is also investing heavily in noise reduction gear. When dozens of players are gaming simultaneously in the same arena, the noise created by one player may affect the player right next to them.

This may create tension between players trying to concentrate and may lead to feuds. Therefore, to mitigate this issue, the esports industry is promoting the use of gear that reduces noise, thereby allowing better communication and team coordination.

Last Thoughts

Noise reduction gear has become a must-have for many users. Whether you are a student wanting to focus on a lecture, a streamer needing clear audio, or a gamer demanding no distractions, this gear fits all.

Desk mats, foamed keyboards, silent switches, and acoustic tiles are also not on the expensive end of gaming gear. For just a small investment, you too can turn your setup silent.

007: First Light Dev Glad GTA 6 Was Delayed As It Avoids Release Clash

Story Highlight
  • 007: First Light dev says he’s glad that GTA 6 was delayed to November.
  • It now avoids clashing with IO Interactive’s game, which is set for spring 2026.
  • March features notable releases like 007, Black Flag Remake, Saros, and more.

Last week, Rockstar announced that GTA 6 has been delayed from its May release to November 2026, disappointing fans. The title needed more polishing; however, some developers are glad with the delay.

007: First Light studio has expressed its relief at the GTA 6 delay because it now leaves a lot of room open for their title. Both were scheduled to release in the spring, although a couple of months apart, but this is GTA 6 we’re talking about.

Why it matters: A close-proximity launch could’ve pushed the audience away from 007, as both the games are full-priced AAA titles, and not everyone is comfortable spending this much money on games in the current economy.

007 first light
007 Devs are glad GTA 6 got delayed, as it avoids a release clash.

Speaking to Gamesindustry.biz, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak discussed the impact of GTA 6 on the industry and how it could’ve affected 007: First Light. He’s glad there is now plenty of space between both releases.

It would be a lie not to say that obviously spring looks really good. I want to say in the same breath that GTA 6 is a welcome thing for the industry.

– Hakan Abrak

GTA 6 Delayed Again
GTA 6 was recently delayed for a second time, to the disappointment of fans.

He says that spring is now looking ‘pretty good’, but GTA 6 is a welcome thing, and it will be great for the industry. Nonetheless, March is still stuffed with awesome releases and tough competition from all sides.

007: First Light, Saros, Crimson Desert, and Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake, all are scheduled for March, and with Resident Evil Requiem also targeting a February release, H1 of 2026 is brimming with content.

Xbox Series X|S Price Allegedly Increasing Again Soon Due To RAM Shortages

Story Highlight
  • Reliable insider Moore’s Law Is Dead claims that Xbox Series X|S may get a price increase again in the near future.
  • The potential price hike is due to RAM shortages in the industry since Microsoft did not plan ahead.
  • On the flip side, Sony is well-prepared and reportedly should be fine for the coming months.

The gaming scene has been hit hard by the sudden RAM shortage that began earlier this year due to the AI boom. This has resulted in insane price hikes across memory sticks offered by notable vendors like ASUS and MSI.

However, PC gamers aren’t the only ones who will suffer the aftermath of this drought. Now, an insider claims that console makers will also bear the burden of growing memory prices, although the situation is allegedly more dire for the Xbox Series consoles than the PS5.

Why it matters: Unless Microsoft adopts a loss-leading strategy for its Xbox Series consoles, we might be in for a terrific price hike again soon. On the flip side, Sony has allegedly enough GDDR6 memory in storage to be safe for the short to mid-term.

In a new video, the reliable leaker Moore’s Law Is Dead claims that Microsoft ‘didn’t plan ahead at all’ for the memory shortage. Therefore, the Xbox Series X|S prices could shoot up pretty soon, or the whole console supply could run out.

Microsoft sales reps have issued this warning to Moore’s multiple sources at Xbox, confirming that the situation is very dire for the brand.

If you still want an Xbox for some reason at their current pricing, those prices could go up soon. […] This is going to affect the Xbox Series consoles very, very soon. Sooner rather than later.

-Moore’s Law Is Dead, Insider.

On the flip side, Sony is well prepared with its GDDR6 memory stock and can last for months without inflating console prices. The brand is so confident that it’s about to sell PlayStation 5 for a steep discount in the upcoming Black Friday sale.

Sony planned ahead, bought up gobs of RAM near the bottom of the pricing, and thus they should be fine for months.

Xbox Series S|X
Xbox Series consoles sold a low number of units compared to PS5 and its variants.

Microsoft has already increased Xbox Series X|S console prices a bunch of times over the years due to evolving market conditions driven by tariffs and a worsening economy.

Do you think the Xbox Series consoles will see yet another price increase soon? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
