- Nvidia has promised a 10x graphical leap for the Nintendo Switch 2.
- This hardware should allow Nintendo to support third-party games more consistently.
- Official specifications for the console have yet to be revealed, but leaks point to performance between the PS4 and PS4 Pro.
The last two days have been huge for Nintendo and its fans. Following an extensive look at the Nintendo Switch 2, details regarding the console’s pricing, performance targets, and third-party games have been shared.
Nvidia, the hardware manufacturer, has also chimed in, sharing a glimpse at the console’s internals. According to the company, the Nintendo Switch 2 is 10 times more powerful than its predecessor.
Why it matters: This is a much more significant jump than the gap between the Wii U and the Nintendo Switch. Features like ray tracing and DLSS should also be quite important.
In a new blog post, Nvidia discussed key features that help Nintendo’s hybrid console stand out. Among them, DLSS and ray tracing support are major introductions, a first for any Nintendo console.
In the same blog, Nvidia makes a bold claim about the raw hardware capabilities. This is interesting since Nintendo has provided plenty of new details this week on everything but the hardware.
With 10x the graphical performance, the Nintendo Switch 2 delivers smoother gameplay and sharper visuals.
-Nvidia
The Nintendo Switch 2 is said to be powered by Nvidia’s Tegra T239 SoC, which should perform better than a PS4. In comparison, the original Nintendo Switch utilized the Tegra X1 chip, which consisted of a very dated Maxwell GPU.
Also, Nintendo has yet to comment on the system memory, although rumors point to 12GB of RAM. All of this means that Nvidia’s comment is the first official indication of the Nintendo Switch 2’s raw graphical capabilities, and they seem to be in line with past leaks and speculation.
Anyhow, these claims will be put to the test shortly. The Nintendo Switch 2 officially arrives in two months, and with games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Elden Ring confirmed for the console, the hardware will be put through its paces soon enough.
What are your thoughts on these claims? Let’s discuss this in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.
