The next Need for Speed title has been heavily rumored for some time. The upcoming game is reportedly titled Need For Speed Unbound, with an expected announcement coming soon.

The report came from multiple reputable sources, and audiences have been looking forward to the supposed title. The official Need for Speed Twitter account has also begun to tease an upcoming announcement.

According to the Twitter account, Need for Speed Unbound is set to be revealed this week

The official Twitter account had been dormant for nearly a year, until today. Twitter banners have also been updated by the account, in an attempt to tease the franchises’ upcoming release.

Need for Speed Unbound is currently under development by the masterminds behind the Burnout franchise, Criterion Games. The last four games in the franchise were led by developer Ghost Games, but the studio was later shut down in 2020, and development was shifted to Criterion Games.

Reports also suggested that the game could be releasing as early as December 2, 2022. This would mean that most of the game’s development has already been completed, and fans will soon be able to learn more about Need for Speed Unbound.

The upcoming release is rumored to be exclusive to next-gen consoles, skipping PS4 and Xbox One releases. While this might sound disappointing, Criterion Games could use this opportunity to drive new innovations across the franchise.

Need for Speed has become a legendary name in the gaming industry. Games like the original Need for Speed: Most Wanted are considered all time classics, and developer Criterion Games has already tried to recapture the original’s magic, with the 2012 release of the same name.

It remains to be seen if Need for Speed can make a strong comeback and regain some of the popularity that the franchise has recently lost. Fortunately, fans will not be waiting too long for the initial reveal.
