Story Highlight
  • A Metal Gear Solid movie is now officially in production by Sony Pictures.
  • The adaptation is being helmed by Final Destination Bloodlines directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein.
  • Avi Arad and Ari Arad are the film producers who already have multiple gaming adaptations under their belt.

Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid franchise is one of the hallmarks of gaming and continues to sell like hotcakes. The remake of the 2004 classic launched last year to an incredible reception despite the performance issues, so fans have been craving more games.

A new report now confirms that a new Metal Gear Solid project is indeed happening, but not in the way anyone could have expected.

A movie adaptation is now in production by Sony Columbia Pictures, with the project being directed by Final Destination Bloodlines’ duo, Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein.

Why it matters: The Metal Gear Solid franchise defined the stealth-action genre, so the news of a movie adaptation being confirmed has been incredibly well-received. This would be the franchise’s first cinema project despite its incredible popularity.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake
Metal Gear Solid is one of gaming’s most renowned stealth franchises.

This tidbit comes via The Hollywood Reporter, which confirms that Zach and Adam have signed an extensive deal with Sony Pictures to include all of the studio’s film labels. Sony Columbia Pictures’ Metal Gear Solid adaptation is a part of the contract.

Metal Gear Solid was nothing short of a groundbreaking cinematic masterpiece that forever revolutionized video games. We are thrilled and honored to bring Hideo Kojima’s iconic characters and unforgettable world to life.

Avi Arad and Ari Arad are producing the film, two big names behind popular gaming adaptations, including Borderlands and The Legend of Zelda. Therefore, the anticipation is at an all-time high, but no other details about the cast and story have yet been confirmed.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake
The remake of the 2004 classic was also incredibly well-received.

On a side note, Konami also has big plans for the Metal Gear Solid franchise moving forward. It plans to preserve the series for the next few decades at least.

The team was also considering working on a new game last year—besides the remakes—despite the original staff having left.
