Last year, PlayStation announced that a sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man was in development and Insomniac Games would be leading development on an upcoming Wolverine title.
Marvel’s Wolverine was announced with a spectacular reveal trailer, but not much information was revealed. A rough release period was not confirmed either, but a new document from Microsoft seems to hint at a 2023 release date for the much anticipated Marvel’s Wolverine.
At the moment, Microsoft is busy with the Activision Blizzard acquisition deal. While the company hoped to make things easier, regulatory authorities like the CMA have proven difficult to convince. Microsoft submitted the document above to persuade the CMA to allow Activision Blizzard’s acquisition.
All of the games mentioned in the document, except Marvel’s Wolverine, are currently confirmed for a 2023 release date. Marvel’s Wolverine has not yet been given a release date, so this seems like an odd statement from Microsoft.
Additionally, Insomniac Games is currently busy with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The game is already confirmed for a 2023 release date, and a gameplay reveal is expected in the coming months. However, it would be difficult for Insomniac Games to simultaneously lead development on two projects and release two big AAA titles within 12 months.
Sony has not talked much about Marvel’s Wolverine since the initial reveal trailer. It is currently known that the Narrative Director from Spec Ops: The Line is working on Marvel’s Wolverine, but information beyond that is very limited.
However, it should be noted that Insomniac Games has been known to be a very efficient developer. The studio has released 4 games(2 Ratchet and Clank and 2 Spider-Man games) in 5 years. Therefore, it would not be surprising to see Marvel’s Wolverine hitting shelves much earlier than expected.
It is not unlikely that Microsoft knows more about Sony’s release schedule than the general public. However, it would be wise to take this information with a grain of salt until further confirmation.
After the success of Marvel’s Spider-Man, the developer has earned a solid reputation. Many fans consider Insomniac Games the perfect studio for future superhero games, and expectations for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 are sky-high.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales is also coming to PC very soon. The game is set to release on November 18, 2022, with all the bells and whistles of a modern PC release.
Marvel’s Wolverine is arguably the most anticipated release from Insomniac Games. With the character’s unique set of abilities and gritty stories, the developer has an endless set of possibilities at their hands. If the game is indeed set for a 2023 release, as the document claims, fans of the game could be in for a huge surprise.
