Horizon Forbidden West Fails To Break Into Steam Best-Sellers Before Launch

Below Top 20 Games Two Days Before Launch!

Story Highlight
  • Horizon Forbidden West is finally arriving for PC on March 21.
  • While most games climb the Steam best-sellers before release, the same has not been the case for this PC port.
  • The game hasn’t even made it into the top 20 best-sellers.

Sony is aggressively pursuing the PC platform after it got a taste of success with titles like Spider-Man and God of War. Following multiple PC ports last year, Horizon Forbidden West is up next.

Ghost of Tsushima has also been confirmed for the platform, but Sony’s first PC port of 2024 does not appear to be doing too great. Horizon Forbidden West has failed to break into Steam’s top 10 best-sellers before release.

Why it matters: Most games make it to the top as the release draws nearer. However, two days before it lands on PC, this PlayStation exclusive has not been able to achieve similar results.

Horizon Forbidden West was first released on PS5 in 2022. Launching to similar critical acclaim as its predecessor, the game received praise for many aspects, but the visuals were a highlight.

PlayStation’s PC ports are typically received with a lot of enthusiasm, but Guerrilla Games’ latest release has not been greeted with similar interest. Despite its critical acclaim, the title seems to have been overshadowed by the likes of Dragon’s Dogma 2, which recently reached the top 5 on this list.

Moreover, Horizon Zero Dawn is Sony’s best-selling PC release. This meant that expectations were high for the sequel, but the results might not end up as favorable as PlayStation hoped.

Even more surprising is the fact that Ghost of Tsushima was found in the top 6 mere hours after its announcement. Despite its May release date, Steam users immediately pre-ordered the game.

It seems Horizon Forbidden West has fallen victim to the buzz surrounding titles like Helldivers 2 and Dragon’s Dogma 2. Steam’s Spring Sale is also taking up a lot of attention, enticing PC gamers with discounts across various games.

In typical Horizon fashion, the series seems to have run into bad luck yet again.

In 2017, the first game launched mere days before Zelda: Breath of the Wild. While this comparison did not do the IP any favors, several years later, the sequel clashed with Game of the Year winner Elden Ring on release.

As unfortunate as it may be, history appears to be repeating itself.

Despite its current outlook, Horizon Forbidden West promises to be an immersive experience on PC. With modest requirements, features like DLSS 3, and more, it seems to have the perfect recipe for a polished PC port.
