Hogwarts Legacy Was Reportedly The Most Successful Release In Q1 2023

Hogwarts Legacy Dominated The Competition!

Harry Potter’s first gaming release in a long while has been a standout hit across the board. With plenty of positive reviews and incredible sales after launch, Hogwarts Legacy exceeded expectations.

Adding to this success, an analysis firm has revealed that Hogwarts Legacy stayed ahead of the competition on both PC and consoles. As such, the game became the most successful title in Q1 2023.

Why it matters: Hogwarts Legacy faced stiff competition from returning classics like Dead Space, Resident Evil 4, and new games at the same time. It was also subject to controversy months before release.

Unsurprisingly, no other release could match the anticipation and excitement surrounding the title on PC. Soon after release, it entered the top 10 most popular Steam games and saw similar success on the Steam Deck.

It should be noted that the game launched with a poor PC port. This also translated to bad performance on the Steam Deck, yet this did little to limit the game’s success on the platform.

On the console side, the firm reports that Hogwarts Legacy came out on top on the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X in the USA. However, Fifa 23 took the lead in the UK, where Hogwarts Legacy took the second spot on these consoles.

Q2 could bring another significant sales growth for the title, as it will be released on PS4 and Xbox One consoles tomorrow, May 5. Both consoles have a much larger install base than their current-gen counterparts, which could introduce the game to an entirely new audience.

In addition to the PS4 and Xbox One release, Hogwarts Legacy is also expected to release on the Nintendo Switch in July. These three consoles have the potential to bring an even bigger wave of players to the fan-favorite release.

The following months will bring major releases like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom, Starfield, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. As such, the competition will only get tougher from here.

It will be interesting to see if Hogwarts Legacy can maintain its initial momentum in the coming months. While the next major games may give it a run for its money, releasing on popular platforms like the PS4 and Nintendo Switch could ensure sales growth for the Harry Potter RPG.
