Incredible Player Retention 2 Months Later!

Story Highlights
  • Helldivers 2 continues to record impressive player counts on Steam.
  • It managed to hit 345K concurrent players in the last 24 hours.
  • The game is still topping Steam’s best-seller charts.

It’s been two months since Helldivers 2 launched, and it shows no signs of slowing down. In the last 24 hours, the title managed to hit a maximum concurrent player count of 345K on Steam and continued its place as the number 1 seller on the platform.

Why it matters: Players gradually lose interest in games over time, and most games suffer from a major drop-off in player counts once the initial launch anticipation wears off.

Helldivers 2 Still Topping Steam Charts

There were two massive launches this year: Helldivers 2 and Palworld. Although Helldivers 2 didn’t hit peaks as high as Palworld, the former has managed to hold on to its success. Meanwhile, Palworld has already lost 97% of its player base on Steam.

The latest Steam player count proves that Helldivers 2 likely has well over 500K daily concurrent players across all platforms. The game is expected to have sold similarly across both Steam and PS5.

Yesterday’s player count also marks the game’s highest concurrent peak on Steam since 17 March. Still, reaching numbers close to 300K on Steam is no big deal for Helldivers 2 since these are achieved nearly daily.

It’s wonderful to see how interactive Arrowhead Game Studios has been so far. Their boss, Johan Pilestedt, has been very active on Twitter, listening and responding to fans, even joking about the game.

We would also like to mention how great the Helldivers 2 community is. They’ve been very supportive of spreading democracy and might even be one of the few fan bases without much toxicity.

As with any game, developer support is critical to longevity. Arrowhead Game Studios seems to be doing a fantastic job so far, keeping the community engaged with both small and big updates.

At this rate, the co-op shooter is poised to become one of 2024’s most consistent live-service games.
