Too Realistic?

  • Past entries show that Rockstar constantly alters gameplay realism.
  • Implementing fuel would slow down gameplay and require massive overhauls to missions and AI traffic behavior.

Gamers are eagerly waiting for November 19, 2026, as it is one of the most important days in the gaming world. On this date, Grand Theft Auto VI is set to launch, marking the long-awaited return of one of the industry’s most successful franchises. As the successor to Grand Theft Auto V, which has sold more than 210 million copies worldwide, it is expected to dominate the gaming world with exceptional sales.

With only a few months remaining, fans are already debating possible gameplay features, and one topic gaining attention on Reddit is whether GTA 6 should include a fuel system for vehicles to make the experience more realistic.

Each Grand Theft Auto game is similar to the others while also offering something different. Take GTA: San Andreas as an example. It introduced material that let users change their character’s physical condition by eating, cycling, or going to the gym.

GTA 6 removed all of this while introducing realistic physics, and GTA 5 returned to a more arcade-style Grand Theft Auto. We don’t know everything about GTA 6, which has sparked disputes on Reddit, including one over the game’s car fuel system.

The user who created this topic discusses the benefits of adding greater realism and immersion to the game. Certainly, some players love these types of games and may be interested in playing a Grand Theft Auto-like game, but we feel there are many more who prefer the opposite.

GTA games are not built in the same way as other, more serious games, and players prefer to have more fun playing around, committing crimes, and building up desired levels to begin chases while wreaking havoc on the city.

GTA V’s multiplayer has helped it achieve remarkable sales and player counts. The multiplayer does not emphasize realism; instead, Rockstar includes objectives and activities featuring races, chases, hurdles, minigames, and anything else that does not resemble a simulator.

While role-playing is quite popular in GTA V, it is more common in FiveM and modified player groups. We don’t believe GTA VI will add fuel to the game’s automobiles, and if it does, as some people have suggested, the gameplay will be slower.

Moreover, adapting AI and NPC traffic to suit gas stations is necessary to avoid player frustration. Missions would also have to be tailored to this framework. In any event, we see it as either a potential community-created mod or a realism-enhancing option in the game settings. For months, we’ve seen posts about adding petrol stations to the next Rockstar game, so it’s not that far-fetched.
