- Digital Foundry reports that GTA 6 is not going to run at 60 FPS even on the PS5 Pro.
- The console is barely any better than the PS5 in terms of processing power, which is what GTA 6 needs.
- Therefore, the game will offer a better resolution on the PS5 Pro, but not much improvement in FPS.
Debates about GTA 6 performance on consoles have persisted for years. New retailer leaks suggested it might feature the traditional Quality and Performance modes, reigniting arguments about the game’s FPS targets online.
However, the modes were likely only mentioned since many other games come with those two configurations. Even if true, the Quality and Performance modes for GTA 6 could mean entirely different FPS targets than other game releases.
Digital Foundry now reports that GTA 6 won’t have a dedicated 60 FPS mode, even on the PS5 Pro. The analysts instead argue that the consoles will likely adopt the more grounded 30 FPS and 40 FPS for 120 Hz monitor modes.
Why it matters: The current console generation just doesn’t seem ready to run GTA 6 at the 60 FPS that fans have come to expect. The game’s large open world, advanced AI, heavy traffic, and other features require significant performance trade-offs, even on the PS5 Pro.

Digital Foundry reports that GTA 6 will require a lot of CPU power to support features like its large open world, advanced AI, high number of NPCs, and heavy organic traffic, among many others.
The PS5 Pro is not much better than the base PS5 when it comes to processing power, even if there are clear GPU differences. However, the GPU power required for GTA 6 is not the main concern here.
The PS5 Pro is only expected to deliver higher resolution and better visuals. Unfortunately, significant performance sacrifices are necessary for the game to run smoothly on both consoles.

There’s also the argument to be made that Rockstar has never launched a flagship title on consoles that target 60 FPS. Regardless, rumors also suggest that Rockstar Games is planning to launch GTA 6 on Switch 2 next year.
