Ghost of Tsushima Requires PlayStation Account For Multiplayer On PC

Sony's Second Big Game To Require PSN Account!

Story Highlight
  • Helldivers 2 has received negative reviews on PC due to needing a PlayStation account for online gameplay.
  • A PlayStation account is also necessary for Ghost of Tsushima, but only for the multiplayer mode.
  • The single-player experience will work just fine without a PlayStation account.

PC gamers aren’t fond of creating different accounts to gain access to multiplayer gameplay on the platform. This process has always been criticized, whether it be from EA, Ubisoft, or PlayStation, based on the latest scenario.

Helldivers 2 was recently criticized for making a PlayStation account mandatory for online gameplay. Sony is said to be behind this decision, and it seems the gaming giant has imposed a similar limitation on Ghost of Tsushima.

Why it matters: This is the second major example of Sony enforcing the use of PlayStation accounts for multiplayer. As such, this could become the standard moving forward.

Players will now need to link their PSN accounts to Steam in order to play the multiplayer mode or access the PlayStation overlay in Ghost of Tsushima. This confirmation comes directly from Sucker Punch Productions, the developer behind this title.

For the unaware, Ghost of Tsushima Legends, the team’s latest multiplayer offering, is a co-op mode based on the core gameplay found in the single-player story mode. It follows a mission-based structure, acting as a welcome extension of the base game.

Since the mode had a decent fan following, this inclusion might spark controversy again. Fortunately, Sucker Punch Productions confirms single-player access will not be tied to a PlayStation account.

Ghost of Tsushima PC Requirments Reveal A High-Quality Port

Ghost of Tsushima is not nearly as dependent on its multiplayer as Helldivers 2. The game might be given a free pass from the fandom since most fans are looking forward to the tale of Jin Sakai and Sucker Punch Productions’ single-player offering.

Still, we believe Sony should consider doing away with this limitation altogether and making it optional for those looking to gain additional features.

Ghost of Tsushima is one of the best, if not the best, PlayStation exclusives heading to PC. There is a lot of anticipation for this port already, so it would be a shame if Sony ruined the excitement due to a hasty decision at the last moment.

The PC version arrives in less than two weeks, with Nixxes Software targeting May 16 for hopefully yet another optimized PC translation.
