"You Have My Attention!"

The Gears franchise was once at the forefront of cutting-edge visuals and third-person shooters. Having found popularity on the Xbox 360, the series has continued to remain relevant for nearly two decades.

While the series has remained mostly absent from the gaming landscape since 2019’s Gears 5, rumors have begun to hint toward Gears 6. The upcoming entry is expected to bring major changes to the IP.

Following recent leaks about Gears 6, the creator of the franchise also appears to be excited about Gears 6.

Why it matters: The Coalition is one of the leading studios in Unreal Engine development, leading to high hopes for a technical showcase and a strong first-party release for Xbox Series S|X.

While Gears 6 remains to be officially announced, job listings have confirmed the game’s development.

Cliff Bleszinski was the original creator of Gears of War. The developer departed from the franchise after the third game, and the series is currently handled by Microsoft’s internal team at The Coalition.

Despite the lack of any involvement with the franchise, Cliff Bleszinski remains enthusiastic about the series. He recently wrote that he heard about the upcoming game from a Gears 5 writer, leading to excitement for the next entry.

The developer then posted a GIF which said:

“You had my curiosity, but now you have my attention.”

While he did not mention any additional details, the creator’s approval likely means that Gears 6 is headed in a promising direction.

A recent Art Station profile has also pointed to a 2026 release date for the game. Therefore, Gears 6 is still a few years away, providing The Coalition plenty of time to come up with exciting ideas.

Unreal Engine 5 is expected to mature significantly by then, potentially opening up new technological possibilities for the game. Apart from Cliff Bleszinski, the journalist Jez Corden has shared similar sentiments regarding the next game.

A few months ago, Jez Corden heard impressive details about Gears 6, but it appears he is far from the only one to have heard the exciting news about The Coalition’s next game.

Nonetheless, Gears 6 is still a few years away. Till then, Xbox has games like Hellblade 2 lined up for 2024 and beyond. This should make the wait for the next Gears game a little less painful.
