Story Highlight
  • The last Ghost Recon game was released in 2019, but did not receive positive impressions from the fandom.
  • Now, Ubisoft has confirmed that a first-person game in the franchise is in development.
  • There isn’t much known about the title so far, except that it is inspired by the COD: Modern Warfare series.

Ghost Recon is one of Ubisoft’s beloved franchises, but it has been quite a long time since the last title in the series was released. The latest game was released in 2019, but it didn’t manage to satisfy the fandom

Ghost Recon Breakpoint was highly criticised because of its poor gameplay mission designs and many technical issues on launch. That is perhaps why the company hasn’t released any more games in the franchise.

However, the fans who have been waiting for another iteration should be delighted to know that Ubisoft has confirmed that a new first-person Ghost Recon game is in development

Why it matters: While Ubisoft isn’t nearly as good as it used to be, it may surprise the fandom with the upcoming games. So, having slight expectations won’t be the end of the world.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint Was Highly Criticized By The Fandom

Ubisoft confirmed the existence and development of a new Ghost Recon game in the recent shareholder meeting. This report comes from Game File, where Yves Guillemot revealed a lot of things regarding their expectations of past games and future plans.

our objective is to also make strong progress in the growing market, generally speaking, by continuing to enhance our current experiences that we offer—and capitalizing on upcoming launches, such as The Division and Ghost Recon.

Then the CFO of Ubisoft answered a question regarding the investment from Tencent. He said that the investment will be used for the future development of other major brand names. He further said:

we’ve got… Ghost Recon is just one example, for our first-person-shooter-type games.

Ubisoft also wants to focus more on the live-service titles. There isn’t much known about the first-person Ghost Recon except that it is the next mainline title in the series and is heavily inspired by the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series

In the meeting, Ubisoft also confirmed that Star Wars Outlaws failed and that microtransactions make gaming more fun.
