Final Fantasy 16 Xbox Port In Development, Says Leaker

Expert Verified By

Could Be Game Changer For Final Fantasy 16!

Story Highlights
  • An insider claims Final Fantasy 16 is arriving on Xbox Series S|X.
  • The leaker accurately reported Square Enix’s latest appearance at the Xbox Developer Direct.
  • Other sources claim Final Fantasy 7 Remake is also receiving Xbox Series S|X versions.

Exclusivity is quickly losing popularity in the gaming industry. While various games are still released as exclusives to one platform or the other, publishers are more interested in timed contracts instead of full exclusivity today.

One such game was last year’s Final Fantasy 16. Despite launching for the PS5, the game’s PC port began development months after release. According to reports, it will also arrive on Xbox Series S|X consoles eventually.

Why it matters: The partnership could be quite fruitful for Xbox since the gaming giant is appealing to Japanese publishers slowly after it ignored the market last generation.

Previously, we reported about a potential Final Fantasy 7 Remake port for Xbox Series S|X,  suggesting Square Enix is keen on continuing its partnership with Microsoft. The latest information comes from Nick Baker.

He accurately leaked Vision of Mana’s presence at the Xbox Developer Direct, stating that the Final Fantasy 16 leak comes from the same source. According to Xbox Era, this announcement could:

“Set the internet on fire.”

Given this track record, there is a strong likelihood that the latest Final Fantasy iteration is gearing up for another release soon. Analysts believe the game was also held back by PS5 exclusivity, so this decision could allow the game to reach a wider audience.

Xbox has recently shown an increasing willingness to work with Square Enix. Final Fantasy 14 is set to arrive on the platform this year, providing a glimpse at a closer partnership between the two.

Final Fantasy XVI

Still, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, releasing this year for the PS5, is unlikely to be part of this collaboration.

These rumors, while existing in the past, are more believable today than before. Square Enix went through a major shift last year, and president Takashi Kiryu has been more open to working with partners like Xbox.

Therefore, we would not be shocked if Final Fantasy 16 arrived on Xbox Series S|X this year. As for the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, last week’s report stated that discussions were underway to bring the first game to Xbox, but nothing has been set in stone yet.
