Final Fantasy is among gaming’s oldest and biggest franchises. The games have been going strong for over three decades, with genre-defining titles like Final Fantasy 7 leading the charge. Final Fantasy 16 is the latest mainline entry into the series, and fans worldwide have been excited about the upcoming release.

News on the game has been somewhat sparse for a while. However, the director has recently dropped hints on upcoming information. Producer Naoki Yoshida said that the next trailer for the game was already complete but was pushed back for various reasons.

Furthermore, Sony has also recently announced the State of Play. The event is scheduled for June 2, and it seems like Final Fantasy 16 could be among the titles featured in the showcase.

As spotted by Twitter user, the PlayStation store listing for Final Fantasy 16 has just been updated. The update went live hours before the scheduled State of Play event. This could hint at Square’s upcoming title playing a large part in Sony’s showcase.

Fans are now speculating if a release date for the game could be announced at the showcase. Final Fantasy’s 35th anniversary is rapidly approaching, and it would make sense for Square Enix to target a release window for the upcoming anniversary.

Moreover, the State of Play has also been confirmed to focus on third-party titles. Final Fantasy games have been a massive part of Sony’s conferences. The last release from the franchise is still a console exclusive for PlayStation, despite being over two years old.
