Ubisoft Making Huge Changes To Far Cry!

Story Highlight
  • Far Cry 7 is the next major installment in Ubisoft’s long-running series, with a release anticipated in 2025.
  • A report suggests that this could be the first Far Cry to be based on third-person gameplay.
  • A job listing suggests Ubisoft will rely on both first and third-person gameplay.

Far Cry is one of Ubisoft’s biggest and most renowned franchises. However, it has slowly lost relevance because of repetitive gameplay in recent releases. The latest entry, Far Cry 6, also suffered from similar problems despite its status as a AAAA release.

Following this release, Ubisoft needs to shake up the formula with Far Cry 7. According to a report, it may be doing just that. Ubisoft seems to be introducing the choice for third-person gameplay in Far Cry 7.

Why it matters: This introduction could end up being a unique selling point for Far Cry 7. It may also introduce much-needed changes to the franchise that lead to further innovations.

Far Cry 7 Third Person Gameplay
Far Cry 7 Could Feature a Third-Person Perspective For All Animations

Far Cry 7 has been in development for a while and reports suggest its release date is set for the year 2025. However, no official announcement has been made till now.

A new job listing for a gameplay animator hints at the inclusion of a third-person mode for the game apart from the conventional first-person. The job listing hints that the exact same animations will be replicated in both perspectives.

This suggests that Far Cry 7 could allow players to switch between the two modes. This would be similar to how games like The Elder Scrolls 5 and Starfield offered two different gameplay options.

Far Cry 7 is also set to make the jump from the Dunia engine to the Snowdrop engine. Therefore, the team could receive assistance from Massive Entertainment, the studio already experienced in third-person gameplay from The Division series.

Fary Cry 6
Far Cry 6 Did Not Leave Fans Excited For Future Content

While nothing is confirmed for now, it’s good to see Ubisoft potentially allowing third-person gameplay for Far Cry.

Such a change could make this entry the biggest departure from the IP in many years. However, this departure could also work in Ubisoft’s favor as it works toward revitalizing the franchise.

Far Cry 7 was not featured at the recent Ubisoft Forward. Still, the game’s official reveal could be less than one year away since sources have previously pointed to a launch in Fall 2025.

Perhaps future leaks will also provide more clarity on the gameplay mechanics and innovations featured in this entry.
