Fallout 4 Reaches 90K Steam Players First Time Since 2016 Amid Resurgence

Also Steam's 3rd Best-Selling Game Currently!

Story Highlights
  • Fallout 4 has seen a massive resurgence and hit a peak of over 90K players for the first time in many years.
  • The game has almost topped Steam’s best-sellers charts.
  • This resurgence is a direct result of the current interest in the franchise after Amazon Prime’s TV show.

Ever since the Fallout TV show aired, the whole IP has seen an upward trend. Amidst all this, Fallout 4 is leading the charts as the latest mainline entry. The RPG has now reached 90K concurrent players on Steam for the first time since 2016.

Why it matters: Fallout 4 was considered a step back from Fallout 3 and New Vegas when it was released. However, audiences have warmed up to the RPG since then, and it remains an integral part of the IP today.

Fallout 4 has reached 90K players after 8 years.

Not only has it managed to gain back such a humongous player count, but it has also climbed up the charts and is now the 3rd best-selling game on Steam. This is quite impressive, especially for a title that is now almost nine years old.

The resurgence means that Fallout 4 is doing much better than every other Bethesda title. Both Skyrim and Starfield are much further behind, with the former reaching 20K players at most in the last 24 hours.

Fallout 4 might see the Steam audience growing even more, as Bethesda has promised a next-gen update for the title on April 25. Bethesda has timed this update just right since the TV show has practically revived the IP on its own.

Fallout 4 Steam 3rd Best Selling Game
Steam’s Top-Sellers include multiple Fallout games.

This resurgence might even encourage Bethesda to pursue an Elder Scrolls adaptation. While Todd Howard has stated that no such TV show is currently planned, we would not be shocked If he quickly reconsidered this decision.

The TV show has also helped Fallout 76 reach an all-time high Steam peak. This goes to show how impactful digital media and its influence can be for the gaming industry as it continues to lend more of its IPs to film and television.
