The Elder Scrolls 6 Will Not Be Released Before 2028

Still Five Years Away, Claims Phil Spencer

The Elder Scrolls 6 announcement is already five years old. However, Bethesda Game Studios is just finishing up the development of Starfield, and the sci-fi RPG is set to be released in September.

Fans are already looking forward to the next installment in the Elder Scrolls franchise, with many having high expectations for The Elder Scrolls 6. While a release date has not been confirmed, Phil Spencer has bad news for fans of Bethesda Game Studios’ RPG franchise.

According to Phil Spencer, The Elder Scrolls 6 is unlikely to release before 2028.

Why it matters: The Elder Scrolls 5 has already sold over 60 million copies, establishing the franchise as a major player in the RPG genre. Therefore, the next entry is expected to be even bigger for the genre.

Speaking during the recent FTC court case, Phil Spencer from Microsoft talked about the potential exclusivity of The Elder Scrolls 6.

According to Phil Spencer, the platforms for Bethesda Game Studios’ next big RPG have not been decided yet. He believes the major reason behind this lack of planning has to do with the game’s release date.

As reported by Gamespot, Phil Spencer said:

“We’re talking about a game that’s like five-plus years away.”

This means that fans of the franchise will not hear much about the title in the next few years. If everything goes well, The Elder Scrolls 6 could be released in 2028. However, this is also not guaranteed.

Games are taking longer to develop, and delays have become a common trend across the industry. Phil Spencer’s statement suggests that Microsoft and Bethesda have a rough idea of the game’s release, but nothing is set in stone.

As such, it would not be surprising to see the game released later than 2028. This also means it will likely be a launch title for the next generation of Xbox consoles.

Following Starfield’s exclusivity, PlayStation fans created a petition for The Elder Scrolls 6 on PlayStation consoles. While Phil Spencer claims exclusivity is undecided for now, Xbox is unlikely to miss out on exclusivity for such a major IP.
