Since the announcement of Shadow of the Erdtree, fans are buzzing with excitement, and Elden Ring has returned to the spotlight.
Recently becoming the third-best-selling game on Steam, FromSoftware’s magnum opus is doing better than in recent months this week. The game has just reached 108K concurrent players on the platform amid the current resurgence.
Why it matters: This Souls-like is celebrating its second anniversary this week. Having been out for over two years, it continues to dominate conversations in the gaming industry.
At the time of writing, around 80K Steam users are currently playing, but the peak concurrent player count was much higher in the last 24 hours.
This peak is Elden Ring’s first time reaching over 100K players since early 2023. The game last reached such numbers in January 2023, highlighting the current resurgence.
On average, this FromSoftware title hovered between 50-60K players till the last week. A similar resurgence was noted last month, but the latest figures mean concurrent player counts have nearly doubled recently.
The current interest seems to be a direct result of player interest after the expansion’s reveal. With Shadow of the Erdtree set for a June 2024 launch, many are rushing toward Elden Ring to prepare for this DLC.
Some players are getting back in shape before the new challenges, while others are hoping to complete the game for the first time. Overall, February 2024 is a great time to be part of the community across all platforms.
This DLC will be FromSoftware’s single largest expansion to date. With up to 10 new bosses and a massive map, it should be enough to justify the somewhat intimidating $40 price tag.
As the game celebrates its second anniversary, interest in Elden Ring remains high. While it may not reach launch popularity again, concurrent player counts of over 100K are not common for single-player games so late in their lifecycles.
This title has also sold over 23 million units, cementing itself as the most significant release from the developer.
