Conquered PlayStation Store Last Month!

Story Highlights
  • Dragon’s Dogma 2 has beaten every other game in terms of digital sales on the PS5 for March in Japan.
  • It was also the third biggest digital game on the console in the US.
  • Overall, Dragon’s Dogma 2 was last month’s biggest new release.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is cementing its place as one of the best releases this year. It had a shaky start due to all the optimization issues, but generally, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has been a hit amongst the fans and was the best-selling PS5 digital game in Japan last month.

Why it matters: Japanese fans were arguing that Dragon’s Dogma 2 isn’t as good as Rise of The Ronin. However, the digital sales seem to indicate that Japan loves the game as much as the rest of the world.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Beat All Major PS5 Games In Japan

According to PlayStation Blog Japan, the Capcom release conquered PS5’s digital charts.

It was followed by Rise of the Ronin, while February’s Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth landed in third place. Interestingly, Rise of the Ronin sold more physical copies than Dragon’s Dogma 2 in the region.

Capcom’s RPG also showed strong results in regions like the US. It finished in third place, beating Rise of the Ronin by a vast lead, even if the game fell behind Helldivers 2 and MLB The Show 24.

These results show how great Japanese studios have been this year. All three of these top-sellers in Japan have had significant sales and popularity in the rest of the world as well, and all come from Japanese-originated studios.

Character Customization Is a Significant Part of The Game

While many anticipated Dragon’s Dogma 2 to crumble under the pressure of the optimization issues, it has managed to hold on quite firmly. The performance issues are still there, but the title itself is nothing short of brilliant.

Its predecessor launched more than a decade ago, so Capcom has successfully revived the franchise today, with this success opening the possibilities for a new entry or DLC.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 has reached over 2.5 million sales overall. Going by the PlayStation Blog, most of these sales came from the PS5 and Steam versions. However, Capcom is also supporting the Xbox platform to ensure it reaches the maximum number of players.
