Will Cyberpunk 2 feature the return of the fan-favorite character?

Story Highlight
  • Cyberpunk tabletop RPG creator Mike Pondsmith has said he has ways of bringing back Johnny Silverhand.
  • Pondsmith explained Keanu Reeves’ character could make a return in the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel.
  • The creator also praised the dedication Reeves had while portraying the character.

Cyberpunk 2077 is arguably the greatest comeback story in gaming history, transforming from one of the most critically panned titles to become one of the top 3 selling global titles on Steam five years after its launch.

The RPG has helped drive CD Projekt Red’s revenue, accounting for almost 60% of the Polish developer’s earnings. Unsurprisingly, the game’s sequel has entered pre-production, and if the creator of the Cyberpunk tabletop RPG is to be trusted, one of the game’s most beloved characters could come back.

Why it matters: Johnny Silverhand has become a modern gaming icon, so his return can only be good news for the fans, and Pondsmith should make it happen.

On a stream hosted by CD Projekt Red on October 30th, Cyberpunk RPG creator Mike Pondsmith stated that he has ways of bringing Johnny Silverhand back from the dead in Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel.

I saw That Keanu would like to find a way  to play johnny again. i have ways to do that.

Pondsmith asked Keanu Reeves to call him and also praised the actor’s dedication while portraying Silverhand, saying that he completely immersed himself in the role. If any other stars appear in the next entry, they should adopt the same attitude.

Reeves has expressed interest in portraying Johnny Silverhand again, despite the character having been dead before the events in Cyberpunk 2077 begin. But, considering how mad the world of the RPG is, you never know what is going to happen in Night City.

The sequel to the RPG is still a couple of years away, with the earliest projections placing it as far out as 2029, as CD Projekt Red is also developing The Witcher 4.
