- Crimson Desert’s Charting the Unknown DLC launches October 29, 2026, with different unlock requirements for its new storylines, exploration features, and gameplay systems.
- Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane’s new stories require completing the main campaign, while underwater exploration is available without additional story progression.
- Shipbuilding, housing, castles, businesses, and Garden of Trials have separate prerequisites, including Greymane Camp upgrades, faction quests, and main-story completion.
Crimson Desert Enhanced: Charting the Unknown launches on October 29, 2026 at 22:00 UTC, and its content does not use one universal unlock requirement. Pearl Abyss has published separate prerequisites for the new character stories, ocean content, housing, castles, businesses, and Garden of Trials.
The most important distinction is that the three new Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane storylines are endgame content, while several exploration and system features can open earlier.
Charting the Unknown DLC Unlock Requirements

For the three new character stories, finish Crimson Desert’s main story first. Pearl Abyss says the Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane storylines can then be started from the Journal menu.
The ocean-focused storyline has a different gate: complete the main-story quest “Howling Hill.” Underwater exploration itself has no special prerequisite. You can dive once the DLC is available, although Pearl Abyss warns that breath is limited and recommends preparing suitable gear if you want to stay underwater longer.
Shipbuilding is tied to Greymane Camp rather than main-story completion. After setting up your Greymane Camp at Howling Hill, complete the related ship questline. Ships can then be built through a comrade dispatch mission at a port or purchased from a Fleet Office manager.
The upgraded housing system needs two things: set up the camp in Howling Hill and complete Luke’s Request under the “Grounds of the Sunrise” Greymanes Faction quest. That unlocks both the regular and upgraded housing systems.
Greymane Castles are later-game content. Pearl Abyss says you must complete the main story and the relevant quests, then liberate each stronghold before the missions that let you claim the three castles become available.
Business management uses regional progression. To access a facility, complete the faction quest required to liberate that region and finish setting up your Greymane Camp. The official overview gives examples ranging from a restaurant in Vellua to a smithy at Zargan Tankworks.
Garden of Trials is also gated by story progress. It becomes available after clearing the main questline and then lets you fight a sequence of bosses for special rewards.
Finishing the story and setting up Greymane Camp is a useful baseline, not a universal key. Those milestones cover many features, but several systems still have their own quest conditions.
GamesRadar’s interview with Pearl Abyss also reinforces the main split: the new character story content takes place after the base game, while exploration is not universally locked behind the ending.
If you want the cleanest preparation route before release, complete the main story, make sure Howling Hill and your Greymane Camp are set up, and finish Luke’s Request. That combination opens or prepares most of the major systems, but the exact prerequisite still depends on the feature you want to use.
