- Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has already zoomed past 500K copies sold.
- This is a massive milestone as this was the debut title for the studio, Sandfall.
- It also looks like a solid contender for the GOTY award with a 92 on Metacritic.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 released yesterday to great acclaim from the fans. The title has quickly become one of the best releases of the year, and it’s not only a critical but also a big commercial success for Sandfall Interactive.
The studio has revealed that Clair Obscur has already sold 500K copies despite coming out just a day before. This is huge for the team as the turn-based RPG is their debut title.
Why it matters: Clair Obscur quickly became the year’s best-rated release with a 92 score on Metacritic, and is apparently an economic success for the studio as well.
Sandfall shared the news via a post on X, marking a massive milestone for the title. It should be noted that Clair Obscur is also available on Game Pass, and selling 500K copies despite that is nothing short of a huge achievement.
Additionally, the game reached a peak concurrent player count of over 51,000, despite not being a weekend, indicating that the player base will likely continue to grow. Notably, it also had to face Oblivion Remastered, but it still has shown a respectable number for an AA debut title.
All in all, Clair Obscur seems like a solid contender for the Game of the Year award already, along with Split Fiction that also has a 91 Metacritic score. The studio must be delighted with the reception, for which they worked so hard.
