- Battlefield 5 has now sold over 14 million copies globally, as confirmed by the game’s narrative director.
- The entry sold over 7.3 million copies during its first two months and was deemed a failure by EA.
- According to executives, the game initially struggled to sell well because of delays and intense competition in the genre.
The 2018 DICE FPS Battlefield 5 was a hit or miss, depending on who you ask. However, EA deemed the game a failure despite selling over 7.3 million copies two months after launch. As per a new update, it has now amassed over 7 million more units since.
The game’s narrative director confirms that Battlefield 5 has now driven over 14 million sales worldwide since its controversial launch over half a decade ago. The whole franchise now boasts over 100 million copies sold.
Why it matters: Battlefield 5 selling over 14 million copies six and a half years after launch suggests that the FPS did attract the attention of new players because of various factors after the initial hype died off.
Armando Troisi’s LinkedIn confirms that Battlefield 5 has slowly accumulated sales over the years. However, this massive increase can be attributed to the game’s notable updates over the years, which addressed many of the criticisms brought up by the players.
Additionally, the disaster of Battlefield 2042 also caused droves of new and old players to return to Battlefield 5, which has likely helped a lot with its sales over half a decade.
Currently, a motley of studios under EA are developing Battlefield 6, which aims to define ‘the future of the franchise.’ The game features classic destruction elements and highly satisfying gameplay, as seen in the pre-alpha leaked footage.
EA is also employing players’ feedback while developing Battlefield 6 to ensure that it turns out to be a much better experience than Battlefield 5 and 2042.
