Not only has Baldur’s Gate 3 dominated Metacritic’s rankings, but it has also emerged as the paramount PC game of 2023 on OpenCritic with a remarkable rating of 95.
Why it matters: The current year has no shortage of quality gaming releases. Despite the fierce competition, Larian Studios’ latest work has managed to make a name for itself.
While the score is impressive, Baldur’s Gate 3 has a limited number of reviews. At the time of writing, the RPG is limited to 11 reviews on the platform. On other other hand, games like Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom have over ten times as many reviews.
With numerous reviews still in the works, the rating may fluctuate in the coming days. This could lead to the game falling below its current position, but it could also stay above Zelda to hold the top spot.
Aside from critical reception, the RPG has already shown an impressive run on Steam. It reached over 250K concurrent players in the first 3 hours of its release, and subsequent player counts made it the second-biggest launch on Steam in 2023.
As the highest-rated release of 2023 on Metacritic, Baldur’s Gate 3 stands above other acclaimed titles like Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Considering the recent reception, it would be safe to assume that this RPG will be a candidate for the Game of the Year award at TGA 2023. Its resounding success and overwhelmingly positive feedback position it as a formidable contender, proving it has all the qualities needed to secure the award.
