Microsoft has confirmed that it’s working on a new handheld console that it plans to release soon. Details have emerged regarding the console codenamed “Project Kennan“, which will be developed in collaboration with Asus.
While the project has yet to be officially announced, Asus has just released a new trailer teasing what could be its collaborative console with Xbox.
Why it matters: The handheld market is rapidly progressing, with newer and better devices released regularly. With Microsoft entering this market, the handheld competition will get even more exciting.
The cryptic video “Run Omni_Upgrades.exe” featured a short clip showing the Asus Rog Ally and an Xbox controller combined to form an entirely new device. Momentarily, before the video ended, the new device also featured the Xbox controller layout.
With Asus already kicking off the marketing for Project Kennan, a possible reveal could be right around the corner. A proper reveal could happen at the 2025 Xbox Summer Showcase, which will take place in the next few months.
Project Kennan will initiate Xbox’s mission to merge the best of both PC and Xbox with handhelds. Microsoft aims to expand the Xbox ecosystem beyond consoles, and Project Kennan is just the beginning.
Previous reports have also suggested a competitive price tag between $499 and $599 for the handheld.
