Some Are Calling It The Best Potrayal Of Ancient Greece In A Video Game!

Story Highlight
  • The Odyssey (2026) has put Assassin’s Creed Odyssey back in the spotlight.
  • Many people are visiting the game to explore ancient Greece more.
  • Some have regarded it as the best Assassin’s Creed game and the best ancient Greek adaptation for a video game, too.

Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated The Odyssey (2026) finally premiered worldwide this weekend and dominated the box office. It’s safe to say that director Christopher Nolan has sparked interest in Greek mythology, which is why Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is trending again.

To explore ancient Greece and learn about its mythology, many gamers are revisiting Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, with most complimenting it as a strong adaptation and how well it has aged.

Why it matters: Assassin’s Creed games have always held up well historically and nailed some of the best adaptations in all of media, and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is just another example in that regard.

Before The Odyssey (2026) premiered in cinemas, Ubisoft itself promoted Assassin’s Creed Odyssey on social media, prompting players to revisit ancient Greece. There was the spark that the game needed to get a second wind.

Since then, most have regarded Assassin’s Creed Odyssey as their favorite game in the series and are now even asking for a Resynced version, although that might not happen anytime soon since the game holds up incredibly well for an 8-year-old title and doesn’t need an upgrade.

This has also opened the debate over the best RPG in the Assassin’s Creed series, and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is clearly the winner among the masses.

Considering how long Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is (it took me 120 hours to fully beat the game, including all DLCs), it can take a while to finish. Most people hadn’t, so when it first came out, Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey gave them another chance to revisit some of Ubisoft’s best work in the past decade.

There’s some overlap in the work between the game and the movie. In the movie, Ithaka is a major plot point, and the same island is featured in the game where Kassandra/Alexios are sent to retrieve Penelope’s Shroud for Elpenor for the quest titled “A Small Odyssey.”

Moreover, the game literally begins at Odysseus’ palace, making it feel like a sequel.

did nolan even play the game also where's kassandra?????

Even though they adapt different stories, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey can help expand Greek Mythology by delving into the heroes and myths depicted in the movie. You can also learn more about ancient Greece through the Discovery mode, which offers guided tours and quizzes on ancient history.
