AMD has been rumoured to abandon high-end Radeon gaming GPUs for a while to focus more on mid-tier and budget gamers and to scale in the market.

While this was never officially confirmed, AMD has now officially stated that they want to move away from high-end GPUs as they don’t want only Ferrari owners to buy their cards and want to focus more on budget GPUs.

Why it matters: This would allow AMD to reach a massive audience as more players are looking for mid-tier and budget GPUs to enjoy titles.

AMD RDNA 4 Will Offer Competitive Mid-Range Options

During a recent interview with Toms Hardware, Jack Hunyh, a senior VP and member of the AMD leadership team finally talked about the ongoing rumours of the company ditching high-end GPUs.

He stated that the company wants to scale, and AMD is at different places right now, trying new things and wants to get the company to 40 to 50% of the market faster. He further stated that he doesn’t want to go after the 10% of the total addressable market but would instead go after the 80%.

I’m an 80% kind of guy because I don’t want AMD to be the company that only people who can afford Porsches and Ferraris can buy.

It has also been claimed that the company wants to build gaming systems for millions of players and will have great products in the future despite abandoning the high-end Radeon GPUs.

Recent reports have also suggested that AMD is set to debut RX 8000 GPUs at CES 2025 to compete in the mid-range against Nvidia. However, AMD will likely stay quiet about it until the release of RDNA 4 in early 2025.
