A reliable leaker, Shpeshal Nick, claims that Sega is looking to revive two of its oldest franchises. According to his latest scoop, Sega hopes to bring back Altered Beast and Gunstar Heroes.

Speaking on the latest episode of Xbox Era, Nick pointed out that Sega recently confirmed potential remakes for Sonic, but Nick claimed that this was not the only Sega IP set to receive this treatment. He said:

“Sega is bringing back some classic stuff. Sega’s looking at Altered Beast and then another game was Gunstar Heroes.”

Both these games are likely unfamiliar to modern audiences, as they are around 30 years old. However, older gamers would appreciate potential new releases for these IPs.

Among the two, Altered Beast is estimated to have sold more than 1.4 million copies worldwide. This is an impressive figure for such an old title, hinting at the potential of another release.

Nick also revealed that he does not know if Sega would remaster or remake the games. However, the older generation is sure to enjoy the games. Following this rumor, fans are curious about more remakes of older games by Sega.

Altered Beast was released in 1988, coming with an Ancient Greek setting. The game tasks players to rescue Athena, allowing them to take on the form of various beasts throughout the beat-em-up gameplay.

Compared to Altered Beast, Gunstar Heroes is a run-and-gun title. The franchise is over 30 years old, and the developer celebrated its 30th-anniversary last year. Nonetheless, fans of both IPs will be glad to know that they could be set to return in the coming years.
