Activision’s Open-World RPG From Elsewhere Will Include PvE Focused Multiplayer Elements

Could This RPG Fill The Gap Left By Destiny 2 In The Market?

Story Highlight
  • Activision’s open-world RPG, developed by Elsewhere, will include PvE elements.
  • A job listing suggests that the game will have seasonal content and progression, with multiplayer focusing on PvE.
  • The open-world RPG will be a new IP that will also feature fantastical elements and magic.

2025 wasn’t an amazing year for Call of Duty, with one of the gaming industry’s most profitable IPs seeing a 60% decline in revenue and playtime across all platforms. As a result, Activision is planning to take the series in another direction while also diversifying its portfolio by expanding into the RPG genre.

Reports this year have suggested that the company is working on an open-world RPG that could rival the likes of Cyberpunk and will include fantastical elements. As it turns out, Activision is also going to include PvE elements in the game, making it a primary focus of the multiplayer.

Why it matters: With Bungie ending support for Destiny 2, the market currently has a gap for open-world RPG’s that focus on PvE, and Activision’s new IP can exploit that.

As revealed on LinkedIn, Activision-owned Elsewhere Entertainment is looking for a multiplayer design director to work on the PvE elements of its upcoming open-world RPG. The job listing suggests that the new IP will feature a progression system and seasonal content embedded in RPG systems.

Previous reports from insiders did state that the RPG from Elsewhere will contain multiplayer elements. But the developer focusing on PvE gameplay with seasonal progression hints that Activision is trying to fill the gap Destiny 2 has left in the market.

Besides the multiplayer elements, other job listings for level designers and quest designers revealed that Activision will include traditional RPG elements in this new IP. Elsewhere is specifically looking for experienced developers who have led content design teams on open-world AAA titles and have an interest in RPGs.

The new IPs’ PvE elements will be embedded in RPG systems.

The studio has already hired talent that has worked on Cyberpunk 2077, The Division, and Uncharted to develop the RPG, which is set to feature fantastical creatures and magic. With Sledgehammer Games also seemingly producing an action RPG, Activision is certainly pivoting away from putting all of its eggs in the Call of Duty basket.
