- EA recently cut 400 jobs and cancelled the next Mass Effect title.
- Battlefield is reportedly safe for now despite EA’s latest round of layoffs.
- Another Battlefield game might not arrive anytime soon, with Dice busy on Battlefront 3.
EA recently confirmed BioWare’s closure and the cancellation of Mass Effect 5. Amid the ongoing wave of cancellations at the team, many have also expressed concerns regarding other franchises.
The silver lining is that EA has outlined various franchises it intends to focus on. A report also states that Battlefield is safe for the time being.
Why it matters: With EA letting go of an IP like Mass Effect, the publisher has shown that practically nothing is guaranteed.

EA has reportedly spared the Battlefield franchise from its latest wave of layoffs, even as other parts of the company face serious cuts. According to Jason Schreier, sources familiar with the situation say Battlefield is safe for now.
He states that EA has plans to continue the series but did not go into further detail. Of course, this isn’t that surprising considering how well Battlefield 6 performed at release last year.
Despite its eventual decline, Battlefield 6 broke various records and made waves following its 2025 release. On the other hand, BioWare’s last three games were considered disappointing, so EA’s decision likely took critical and commercial reception of the studios’ titles into account.

It should be noted that Dice is said to be working on Star Wars Battlefront 3, so another Battlefield title may not arrive anytime soon. Still, fans will be glad to know that the series isn’t going away.
