- Resident Evil Requiem physical sales on PS5 reportedly exceeded all Xbox versions combined.
- Disc Requiem sales on the platform earned over 1.8 times more revenue than all copies sold on Xbox.
- Nearly 15% of the game’s entire revenue comes from the PS5 physical edition.
Since Sony confirmed it will end production of first-party game discs starting in 2028, multiple sales reports have revealed the physical edition’s strong presence on the platform. Resident Evil Requiem’s disc sales on PS5 have been one of the strongest indicators.
A new report now reveals that Resident Evil Requiem’s physical sales on PS5 were so high they exceeded Xbox physical and digital sales combined, including Xbox PC.
Why it matters: The physical version of Resident Evil Requiem has sold like hotcakes on PS5. Like previous similar reports, this result once again shows there’s an absurd demand for disc releases on the platform despite Sony’s plan to cut it off in the near future.
Recent data shared by Alinea Analytics highlights 2026’s top PlayStation games by physical copies, revealing that Resident Evil Requiem’s physical sales on PS5 earned over 1.8 times more revenue than all Xbox copies combined.
It has sold 1.3 million total disc copies and made over $305.3 million in revenue on PS5 so far. Nearly 15% of Requiem’s entire revenue comes from the PS5 physical edition alone, accounting for 30.2% of the game’s PlayStation revenue.
Past reports showed that Requiem sold over 50% of copies physically in countries like France and Japan, with many other regions also hovering around above 40% margins.
And it’s not just Requiem either; ~50% of AC Shadows and Astro Bot sales were physical in many countries on PS5.

Meanwhile, Marvel’s Wolverine also saw 800k physical sales on PS5 out of its total 2.6 million copies. It made ~$64.6M in disc sales, about 32.3% of its overall revenue.
So, many gamers have argued it really might be too early to pull the plug on disc editions in 2028.
A report suggested Sony was surveying developers about killing discs as it considers reversing the decision, but who knows what will come out of it.
