Former God of War Creator Is Salty Due To PlayStation Leadership!

Story Highlight
  • The ex-God of War creator has criticized PlayStation, particularly for its treatment of the IP.
  • He argues that a spin-off like God of War: Sons of Sparta shows a lack of decision-making within the company.
  • The former Sony developer also criticized God of War Laufey’s collector’s edition.

Many of PlayStation’s recent moves, such as its physical disc cancellation, have proven to be quite unpopular among the general audience. Not only have gamers criticized the brand, but the likes of David Jaffe have discussed PlayStation in a negative light for various reasons.

In his latest video, the former God of War creator once again criticized PlayStation, targeting the company’s leadership in particular.

Why it matters: David Jaffe’s words have become famous for being somewhat controversial, but because of his history with PlayStation, many remain interested in his thoughts.

His latest video makes the point that PlayStation isn’t doing the best that it can with its current IPs.

Discussing God of War: Sons of Sparta, David Jaffe shared his thoughts on how he believes titles like Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse are much better representations of metroidvanias than the God of War spin-off.

The God of War creator believes that the God of War spin-off should not have been released in its launch state. He also discussed God of War: Laufey’s collector’s edition, arguing that the statue included with the game looks very cheap and pathetic despite the $170 price tag.

He notes that merch like this would never have been greenlit in the past, which serves to highlight how PlayStation’s standards have fallen over the years, perhaps due to a lack of control and commitment within the leadership.

It’s a complete lack of creative oversight. A failure to say “no, that’s not good enough.”

I’m sad because I miss the soul of a company that used to stand for greatness.

Elsewhere, David Jaffe explained that he used to fight management, HR, etc. during his time at PlayStation to ensure fans would get the best version of games possible. The former God of War developer remarks that “he is salty” at PlayStation due to bad decision-making recently.

Of course, this isn’t the first time David Jaffe has criticized PlayStation. In the past, he shared similarly harsh critiques for God of War Laufey and Marvel’s Wolverine.
