Says Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Won't Be In The Top 2!

Story Highlight
  • Activision’s CMO has called GTA 6 and Modern Warfare 4 the biggest games of 2026.
  • The comment also referenced Zelda, putting it below the two games.
  • Modern Warfare 4’s upcoming release doesn’t have fans too excited, so it will be interesting to see how this comment ages.

It’s no secret at this point that Call of Duty sells millions of units each year, typically ending up as one of the best-selling games of the year by the end.

Even weaker entries like Black Ops 7 sold millions of copies, and Activision now seems to be more confident than ever in Modern Warfare 4. Despite impending competition from GTA 6, the gaming giant believes Modern Warfare 4 will end up as one of 2026’s biggest releases.

Why it matters: Previously, Infinity Ward noted that it did not fear competition from GTA 6, so it will be interesting to see how these games perform as the year draws to a close.

GTA 6
GTA 6 Launches On November 19

Speaking to The Game Business, Activision’s CMO declared GTA 6 and Modern Warfare 4 the two biggest games of the year. This, of course, is a bold claim since Call of Duty fans don’t seem all too excited for the upcoming entry.

Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake is also set to launch alongside GTA 6 next month, and given Nintendo’s history, the game will certainly shift a lot of units. However, Activision CMO Tyler Bahl believes Zelda will not be able to crack the top two spots.

No offense to Zelda, but GTA and COD are the two biggest games of the year.

As per Bahl, GTA 6 will indirectly benefit Call of Duty by bringing more players to PlayStation and Xbox consoles. In turn, these players will keep an eye out for Call of Duty on these platforms.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 has to do much better than last year’s COD experience to stand out.

Modern Warfare 4 launches in just over a week, and GTA 6 will then follow later next month. As such, it will be interesting to see whether these two games actually end up as the year’s best-sellers like the Activision CMO predicts.
