Ubisoft CEO Says Watch Dogs Is An Important IP, But Don’t Expect Any Games Soon

We Might See More Watch Dogs In The Future, Though!

Story Highlight
  • Ubisoft CEO has confirmed that Watch Dogs remains an important franchise for the company.
  • But a new game is not in the works yet, as it’s not the top priority at the moment.
  • The franchise is quite alive, however, as a movie is currently in production.

Reports in early 2024 suggested that Ubisoft pulled the plug on the Watch Dogs IP after its last title, Legion, failed to meet sales and rating milestones. But in early 2026, a known insider claimed the series isn’t dead at all, considering Ubisoft’s support for open-world titles.

Ubisoft has now officially commented on the absence of new games within the Watch Dogs franchise, clarifying that it remains an important franchise for the company. However, no new project is currently in development despite the growing demand.

Why it matters: Ubisoft still sees potential in the Watch Dogs franchise, even if a new game is currently not in development. The developers could also be struggling to define the future path and creative potential of the next game at the moment.

Watch Dogs
The last Watch Dogs game received a lower positive reception than expected, despite trying unique gameplay mechanics.

In Ubisoft’s latest annual meeting with investors, CEO Yves Guillemot answered an investor’s query about Watch Dogs [after 1:47:00], clarifying that a new game won’t be put in a creative house to be developed just yet since it isn’t developed in the Snowdrop or Anvil engine.

It is not expected to [be] put in a creative house for the moment, before it’s potentially remade.

His remark about the remake also suggests that a Watch Dogs remake could be in the works in either the Snowdrop or Anvil engine moving forward, but it might just be a translation error.

It also implies the franchise could be revived or remade under a new team moving forward. Reliable insider Tom Henderson also previously claimed that a Watch Dogs Legion Director’s Cut is in development, so Guillemot’s remark could also be hinting towards it.

Watch Dogs
We might have to wait a long time for the next Watch Dogs entry.

Regardless, the Watch Dogs franchise is also not entirely dead, with an official movie in production by French filmmaker Mathieu Turi starring Sophie Wilde, Tom Blyth, and Markella Kavenagh. However, not many details are known about the project just yet.
