Xbox Has No Plans to Slow Down on Cloud Gaming Despite Reports That It’s Losing Money

A Dedicated Cloud Gaming Controller is Also In The Works!

Story Highlight

  • Reports suggested that Xbox Cloud Gaming was losing money and wasn’t viable.
  • Despite this, the company doesn’t seem to have any plans to decelerate the service.
  • It even has a cloud gaming controller in the works alongside next-gen controllers.

Cloud gaming had a lot of potential, with many even seeing it as the future of gaming based on the obnoxious hardware prices these days. However, it hasn’t managed to take off as much, with services like Xbox Cloud and GeForce Now struggling.

Fears that Xbox might be pulling back on the service stemmed from certain Samsung TVs losing access to it. However, it was noted that this was because the TVs were outdated, and Xbox has no plans to slow down on cloud gaming.

Why it matters: The company massively changed the structure of its online gaming model, as now you’ll have a specific number of active hours with Game Pass, after which you’ll have to pay for any additional time.

Recent reports also emerged that Xbox was losing money beyond those provided hours with the new structure; therefore, they had to take this step. Despite this, Windows Central says they aren’t decelerating on the service.

Despite still being committed to it, the company has somewhat scaled back on the service under the new leadership. Phil Spencer went all out with it, especially with all the marketing gimmicks like “This is an Xbox”.

There were reports that it was losing money on it before introducing a new service model

Nonetheless, Xbox Cloud Gaming future is far from over since it has a dedicated controller in development. And with the hardware prices not expected to come down soon, the demand might eventually arise.
