With Rockstar finally ramping up GTA 6 promotion, the anticipation for the title has become something the gaming world has never seen before. Ever since its extended reveal on Netflix, which earned the platform 100,000 subscribers, the title has been ever-present as fans gear up to get a taste of Rockstar’s biggest open-world game.

The hype for GTA 6 is so unprecedented that a $400 collector’s edition without the game is being sold for thousands of Dollars by resellers. Now, new information about the game has come out and gives us a sneak peek into its in-depth weather system.

Why it matters: With every new tidbit that comes out, the anticipation around GTA 6’s immersive open-world grows just a little bit more.

Water itself will react with the wind in the game thanks to the new weather system.

According to Game Informer’s feature on GTA 6, the title will feature a re-engineered weather system that will put players in the midst of hurricanes and storms. Owen Shepherd, VP of art for lighting and rendering, explained that this system has been implemented to immerse players in the Miami setting while making the open-world feel more dynamic and solid.

The developer didn’t explicitly say how often these storms and hurricanes will occur in GTA 6, while also being vague about the effect on gameplay. But Shepherd did paint a picture, saying these weather events will feature a dense atmosphere, a lot of rain, dramatic flashes of lightning, thunder rumbling, and water running from the rooftops.

Rockstar Games wanted to achieve a sense of scale never seen before with GTA 6, as per the developer, and a broad weather system that shifts dynamically from clear skies to clouds with lightning across the map was one way to attain that.

Wind blowing on rooftops will swirl hair and debris as part of the re-engineered weather.

Furthermore, Shepherd also revealed that the game will feature an updated wind system, with hair and debris swirling around with the wind. The effect will be so detailed that players will even see wind blowing ripples on the water surface.

Do you think an in-depth weather system like this will immerse the player more in GTA 6 or hinder the gameplay experience many want? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.
