- A PS5 port of the Eden emulator for Switch has been developed and is running titles natively on the Sony console.
- Performance and stability vary across games as the project is still in its Alpha stage.
- Metroid Dread is already running at 40 FPS, while players can boot up Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
With video game companies introducing new anti-consumer guidelines every day, emulation has been all the rage in the past few months. The PS5 has been at the center of emulation discourse, with developers making giant leaps in porting PS5 titles to PC.
Despite being in its early stages, a new experimental emulator has even taken games only available on the PS5 to Xbox Series X|S. Now, instead of taking games away from the Sony console, a new project is bringing Switch titles to the PS5.
Why it matters: If Nintendo doesn’t strike down this emulation project, it could be a game-changer for players.

The Eden emulator for Nintendo Switch games on PC has now been ported to PS5, allowing the console to run exclusive titles only available on the Switch. Developed by BlackBearReloaded on GitHub and titled ProsperoEden, the emulator can run Switch games like Metroid Dread natively on the Sony hardware.
However, as the project is still in its Alpha, compatibility is very limited, with performance and stability varying a lot between different games. So far, Metroid Dread runs at 40 FPS, while Super Mario 3D World is playable, and PS5 players can even boot up Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
The Nintendo Switch version of Cuphead performs at a striking 60 FPS, but ProsperoEden is still limited to 2D and platform titles, with 3D and massive AAA games not running perfectly on PS5 via the emulator.

Considering how the project is still in its Alpha stage, being able to run titles like Metroid Dread on the PS5 is a considerable feat. With Nintendo’s harsh stance on emulation not being a secret to anyone, one can only hope that the developer gets to optimise ProsperoEden even more.
Do you think the emulator will be good enough in the future to run titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild natively on the PS5? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.
