Rockstar Games’ GTA 6 Collector’s Edition has been quite popular despite not even including the game. It comes with a set of appealing Vice City-inspired physical merchandise, but the studio has also faced significant backlash due to its steep $400 price.
Many users online argue that the costly Collector’s Edition is not worth it or justifiable at all, even given the hype surrounding GTA 6.
One fan took matters into his own hands and has already successfully 3D printed a high-quality replica of the Macca the Gator Figure from the Collector’s Edition using resin.
Why it matters: If this practice of 3D printing the GTA 6 Collector’s Edition grows, many gamers might choose these fan-made alternatives in the future instead of the costly official version.
Twitter user @JSantiag0rj has slowly been 3D printing and refining the figurine using a Saturn 4 Ultra 3D printer. He printed Macca the Gator figure in one go using resin, achieving a smoother and higher-quality finish than a typical filament print could deliver.
Many users on Twitter have also been inspired by this 3D-printed figurine that looks nearly as good as the original even without colors. It’s unclear if he attempts to 3D print the other merchandise yet.
Some are already attempting to copy Santiago after obtaining the STL files. Many fans have also supported the creator for taking a stand against Rockstar with his own version following the Collector’s Edition price controversy.
While Santiago is selling the STL files online for others to use, he refuses to sell the actual figurine, likely fearing legal retaliation.
The GTA 6 Collector’s Edition is already scalped for over $1500 in various online stores due to limited availability in several regions, so it’s becoming even harder to buy the official version.
