Xbox Has No Exclusives in Development After Cancelling Recent Halo Game, Says Insider

No Exclusives Seem to Planned Yet After Gears and Clockwork Revolution!

Story Highlight

  • Xbox introduced its renewed exclusive strategy this year with Gears E-Day and Clockwork Revolution.
  • An insider says that following Halo’s cancellation, Xbox has no exclusives in development.
  • This makes the company’s recent decision questionable and seemingly unsure of things.

Xbox recently had another wave of its massive restructuring that cost over 260 jobs and led to many studio mergers. The studio that received the biggest hit in the last round was Halo Studio, which reportedly now consists of only 20 people.

Apparently, the studio was also working on an exclusive Halo that was early in development. But according to an insider, Xbox currently has no new unannounced exclusives in development following the cancellation.

Why it matters: The company revealed that it is putting its attention back towards exclusives earlier this year with games like Gears E-Day and Clockwork Revolution, but the strategy still seems unfinalized.

In the latest episode of the Game Mess podcast, Jeff Grubb talked about Xbox’s strategy for exclusives. He said that following the cancellation of the Halo game, the company doesn’t really have a pipeline of exclusives in the works.

There would’ve been an exclusive Halo game at Halo Studios, and they shut it down, so it’s not like there’s a runway of exclusives they’re working on; it seems like just a couple of games (Gears and Clockwork)

Xbox doesn’t seem to have any unannounced exclusives in the works anymore

Grubb said the only titles coming to Xbox only include Coalition’s Gears E-Day and InXile’s Clockwork Revolution, and he isn’t even sure why they did it. Following those, the company currently has no more exclusives.

Anyhow, with Xbox Helix expected to arrive next year, and since there won’t be any major exclusives at launch, the hardware could struggle once again. However, despite the insider’s track record, take it with a grain of salt.
