In a major shakeup, Xbox announced a bunch of layoffs at Halo Studios and revealed that the next Halo’s development has been handed over to Activision. This has garnered mixed reactions, but an ex-Blizzard boss seems quite happy. 

Mike Ybarra stated that the news of Activision taking over the Halo department is the best news for the fans of the franchise in over a decade. He believes the franchise will now thrive under its new leadership. 

Why it matters: Halo has become a mere shadow of its former self with back-to-back weak entries by 343 Studios, now called Halo Studios. Even the recent remake of the original couldn’t captivate too many fans.

Posting on X, Ybarra stated that Halo is now in the great hands of Activision developers like Rob Kostich, Dave Stohl, and more. They aren’t political and aren’t afraid to take risks, which brings Halo to its absolute best. 

He believes that this is the best thing that could’ve happened to the franchise, and Activision will set the stage for the next 10+ years. Additionally, none of the active Call of Duty teams will be working on Halo. 

This is also a good sign, considering Call of Duty hasn’t been at its best either. Anyhow, moving Halo to Activision does seem like a decent decision, and might eventually return the franchise to its former days of glory.
