- A former Anthropic researcher argues that AI progress is not slowing down and could become dangerous within years.
- The warning focuses on the upcoming arrival of superintelligence, which could show remarkable self-improvement.
- This warning has led to discussions about the rapid work on AI improvements and potential safety measures.
There has been plenty of back and forth regarding the subject of AI taking over human jobs. As the technology continues to make rapid progress, many have expressed concerns about AI’s implications for the future.
A former Anthropic researcher has also recently come forward, warning of the dangers AI could pose to all of humanity.
Why it matters: AI use has become a common theme today, particularly in the games industry. The technology has also spread to other professions, but superintelligence could prove to a be a real threat.

Former Anthropic researcher Jacon Coxon has argued that AI systems could become powerful enough to threaten humanity by the end of the decade.
The researcher has also worked with OpenAI in the past, arguing that both companies are making rapid strides in the race toward superintelligence. Coxon argues that those working on AI are well aware of the threats it poses to humanity as a whole.
He argues that AI will soon have the capability to hack anything or even acquire real power in no time. The former Anthropic employee ultimately warns that AI could kill humanity eventually.
The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade.
Interestingly enough, Anthropic Alignment Science Lead Evan Hubinger joined the conversation and corroborated Jacon Coxon’s train of thought. He stated that the chances of this coming to fruition are greater than 10%.
To be clear, as we say in our latest Risk Report (https://t.co/9PDj8Uvoty), I think the risk from present models is low. What I am worried about is superintelligence arising from recursive self-improvement, as we have said is happening faster than we thought…
— Evan Hubinger (@EvanHub) September 9, 2026
According to Hubinger, superintelligence is what everyone should be worried about. Future AI’s capability to self-learn and improve will be something extraordinary and unlike anything humans have ever seen.
Many now suggest these companies take safety measures in case such predictions do end up coming to fruition.
