The PS3 Emulation Team Isn't On Board With DLSS 5 Use!

Story Highlight
  • The RPCS3 team says it won’t support DLSS 5 and criticized AI-driven enhancements.
  • In a Twitter, post, the team described DLSS 5 as nothing but AI slop.
  • This reaction to Nvidia’s latest technology has led to mixed responses.

PS3 emulation has come a long way over the years, and this is largely due to the RPCS3 team’s efforts.

Thanks to steady optimization and game support, RPCS3 now boasts a huge library of supported titles that have remained stuck on the PS3. The emulator also features various options like 60FPS patches for 30FPS games, but the team has no intention of supporting DLSS 5.

Why it matters: DLSS 5 is the current hot subject of debate in the games industry right now, with many discussing its upsides and downsides.

The team behind RPCS3 has pushed back against the idea of adding DLSS 5 support, saying that it won’t support what it described as “AI slop.”

In fact, the official Twitter account described frame generation in a similar manner, claiming that developers have begun relying on the technology to skip optimization and things that matter.

We have seen the slop it generates. We do not ship any of that slop.

Interestingly, the team’s stance has earned mixed responses. Many claim that denying AI-based technologies like DLSS 5 outright is not the wisest decision. They suggest that RPCS3 would benefit from having DLSS upscaling, at the very least.

As per the team, however, this is not something it is interested in. RPCS 3’s goal, as the Twitter account puts it, is to optimize the emulator as much as possible and preserve classic games.
