  • The team hung out with ex-criminals and weapons dealers to understand the setting and their characters.
  • Rockstar Games took similar steps when getting a feel for the location’s music.

GTA 6 has received additional information through a major preview ahead of its Netflix Extended Look for tomorrow.

This preview comes with new screenshots and explains how Rockstar Games went above and beyond to capture the authenticity of Florida when working on the title. In fact, the team even worked with ex-criminals and gun dealers.

Why it matters: Few games have access to the development time and resources that GTA 6 did, so Rockstar Games did not pull any punches when working on the title.

The game is already topping charts on Amazon.

Speaking to Daze, Rockstar Games developers explained how it brought the world of GTA 6 to life to prepare for its November 19 release.

In order to capture Miami’s authenticity, the team approached development earnestly and visited Miami several times over the last decade. This was initially done to understand the layout of GTA 6’s setting, but the team also did the same for the game’s cast.

As per Rockstar Games’ Senior Vice President of Narrative, the team’s characters were born out of real-world experiences. To achieve this, developers met ex-criminals, gun dealers, and law enforcers.

The studio even cross-referenced their stories with past events through books and media coverage as it worked on understanding the true essence of Miami’s crime world.

We will meet with ex-criminals, law enforcement, club promoters, gun dealers and anyone notorious who’ll take our calls. We hang out, get a feeling for the place.

The team paid similar attention to other parts of Miami, such as its music, brands, shops, etc.

As the team explains, this was done to make the world feel truly alive, as opposed to a parody of an existing location. Of course, there is also no shortage of parodies in GTA 6, with the game featuring the likes of the Florida Joker.
