Modern Warfare 4 Beta Launches to a Wave of Player Complaints Over Bugs and Gameplay Issues

The Game Is Sitting At Only A 38% Positive Rating On Steam!

Story Highlight
  • The first Modern Warfare 4 beta has launched to a mixed reception on Steam.
  • The game is sitting at a 37% positive rating only when checked across all languages.
  • Many players have reported a variety of technical and gameplay issues.

Call of Duty faced significant competition after many years with Black Ops 7’s launch thanks to Battlefield 6 and Arc Raiders. The game performed poorly in terms of sales and player reception, so Activision is aiming to go all-in with Modern Warfare 4 to win back hearts.

However, impressing COD fans might not be as easy as Activision thinks. The first Modern Warfare 4 beta has launched to a mixed reception on Steam, with only 37% positive reviews if all languages are considered.

Why it matters: This negative beta reputation could carry over to the final release if Activision fails to mend the reported issues and optimization woes. MW4’s success is also paramount for the IP’s future after Black Ops 7’s shaky reception, after all.

Hundreds of negative reviews on Steam have outlined a variety of technical woes and gameplay issues that are ruining the FPS experience.

Optimization issues are present even for gamers with high-end rigs. Many players can’t even run MW4 after updating the BIOS and enabling TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, and other necessary settings.

The game’s TTK feels unreasonable, and spawn killing is a rampant issue at the moment regardless of map size. Additionally, the gameplay feels awkward on a mouse and keyboard, and auto-aiming on controllers also feels quite unfair.

And as you’d expect, even the first Modern Warfare 4 beta is already experiencing cheaters and players with aimbots alike. Activision’s anti-cheat is clearly failing to hold up for now.

The game needs to really impress longtime players moving forward.

However, the game stands a strong chance at success if Activision fixes these issues before the final release. MW4 beta has seen a strong headcount, with over 115k all-time high players since it began. It is also the top-selling title on Steam at the moment.

Do you think Activision Blizzard will manage to squash all these issues that Modern Warfare 4 players have pointed out so far? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
