- The upcoming Tomb Raider remake will feature RPG elements.
- There will be crafting elements present in the game.
- This will be a huge departure from the linear experience the game was regarded for, and fans aren’t happy with the changes.
The first Tomb Raider game is getting yet another remake, titled “Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis,” scheduled for later this year.
In a brand-new showcase for the game, several new features were highlighted, along with several distinctions from the original.
For starters, the Tomb Raider remake will now incorporate RPG elements amongst other progression changes.
Why it matters: For a franchise traditionally known for linear gameplay, these changes might not sit well with long-term fans.
The remake will introduce a “Focus” meter for starters, which is an ability to slow down time, and the meter will get filled with actions during combat.
Regarding the RPG elements, there is now a skill tree present in the game, and you can progress by collecting artifacts instead of XP. Other than that, there’s also crafting in the game where you collect herbs to reduce incoming damage or buff your health.
It seems that the developers at Flying Wild Hog are retaining many elements from the Survivor trilogy that didn’t sit well with fans in the first place. On ResetEra, fans are already expressing their frustration over this controversial change.

Some argue that Lara Croft is already an experienced treasure hunter and there’s no reason why she should be learning new skills. Another says that they can live with the skills tree, but crafting is where they draw the line.
